A LAWYEE'8 SLY GAME.

Filcnes money From Hen Hutchinson by Working Upon His Credulity.

W halley Miller, a would be lawyer without scruples or the character to make an honest living, has gotten some good people into trouble. He holds forth at Waynetown. He devised a cunning scheme to raise some ready cash.

So ue time ago Ben Hutchinson, residing near Eltiidale, came in possession of a 8100 note on a young Snyder, of a\netown, but who is at present in the penitentiary for larceny. The note was considered worthless by Mr. Hutchinson. and for that reason when the assessor came around be did not give it in. Miller in sotne manner (ouud this out. Here was his chance to work on the credulity of Hutchinsuii whose plain hon.st manner of viewing things mak^s him repose confidence in those with who.u he has dealings. Not. of course. divining Miller's intentions he told the tt he ha not reported the note S ion for the reason that he eon mu-ieii it worthless. Hy base cunnina^'

Hutchinson was made to believe that he had placed himself liable to a heavy iine a no possibly imprisonment. Miller. I hou'TiT. for the fool sum of c-100 offer ed to fix it up fur him. Hutchinson not being posted on such matters, jinally acci-dbd to the term- proposed and made payment of £'X in cold cash and the remainder in a note of ci!i)5. iier at once proceeded to spend the

Hutchinson was therefore made square but Mr. Rider is in the pit unless later developments have changed the situa tion. Striped clothes would harmonize with Miller's character and ne will likely be where such attire is all the fashion.
