The name of Lee S. Durliaui." of tliis City, is announced as a candidate for couctv surveyor, subject to the demo cratic county convention on Saturday 'next. Mr. Durham is a thoroughly equipped man for the place, is a graduate of D'd'auw University, and if elected will till the ollice to the satisfaction of the people. The party will not have to go out of the county for a candidate for I surveyor as did the convention last Sat urday.

chief lire engineer by a stragc'ic move. The dispossessed re possessed himself of his oflice by securing a temporary restraining order from Judge McNutt, and the controversy will now be settled by the courts. The old ehiof claims the right to the ollice under the Mcllugh bill till September.
At the-last: monthly teachers cxamina tion there was one question in geog raphv upon which the entire lot of 71 •applicants "flunked." 'The question was. "where is Cape Vincent?" It requires a large U. S. map to lind it.
Most of the auswers given to the question located the cape in South America. It is to fie found along the New York coast of Lake Ontario, well up to the northeastern point of the lake. Some of the teachers were ready to declare that the State Board just discovered the lake for that special occasion..
