Commissioner John Peterson met with a little accident while returning from his farm last Saturday. A the Potato Creek bridge his liors-e became frightened and upset the buggy. Mr. Peterson escaped xvith a fexv slight bruises, but the buggy xvas pretty badlybroken up.

Decoration Day was xve'l observed here. By one o'clock the streets xxere lined with people, and a line of march xvas formed on east Main street, consisting of the Grand Army boys. Odd Fellows. Good Templars. K. I'.'s, Sun day school scholars, carriages and buggies. They marched to the cemetery where the graves of the old soldiers were decorated. After returning to town a large crowd xvent to the Presbyterian church and were addressed by Professor Smith.

WASHINGTON, May ill.—The debate in the house on resurrecting state banks gathers energy as it proceeds. It had been the purpose to get a vote this week, but the demand for time to speak has been so great that the debate is expected to run through the next ten days. The state bank leaders have reached the conclusion since the debate began that, they will command about l-li) votes for one of the various plans of repeal. They say that xvith a full attendance this vote may fall short of carrying the repeal, but that it xvill carry, in an average attendance. These HO votes represent a rapid growth of state bank*' strength since the last congress, xvheu the bill of Representative Rk-hardson (Teuti.) for the unconditional repeal of this tax secured only ?-l votes, xvith 11m against and "r.'7 not voting. This vote of two years ago is noxv being recalled, as it puts on record many members of the present house.
