MILLS IB THE MAN.

The Democrats iiffect a Permanent Oreanization and Name Dates of Conventions.

There was a fair turnout of democratic township committeemen at the meeting held in the small court room last Saturday afternoon for the purpose of effecting a permanent organization and transacting other business. The meeting was open to all democrats and there was a good attendance.

J. J. Mills was the unanioua choice of the party for county chairman during tho coming compaign and he was elected without any opposition. The names of Taylor Thompson and Claude Thompson were placed in nomination for secretary. The Tote gave T. Thompson a plurality and he was declared elected. Wallace Sparks was made treasurer without a dissenting rote.

In taking the chair, Mr. Mills Baid he accepted the high honor conferred upon him with the understanding and earnest hope that he is to have the hearty cooperation of every democrat in the county from now until the time the polls close next fall,

-'N'o

man," he said "can make

a successful chairman without thosQ conditions." The datee for holding the township meetings and the county nominating convention then came up for discussion. Inasmuch as one or two of the townships liad already fixed the time for nominating the township officers, it was decided to leave that matter to the discretion of the Tarious townships. The date for holding thecounty nominating convention was lixed for Saturday, June ICS. The several townships are to meet in their several places on Saturday June 9, anil name their delegates to the county convention. The delegates to tho State, Congressional and Joint representative conventions will probably be named -he same time.

Lively "Old Hannibal."

Very many of tho oldor class of citizens remember Hannibal Purcel. He left hero over tvventv-five years ago, moving to Liogansport, but his eccentricities. comical actions and odd ways are still recalled. Here is the latest about him:

The unique offer is open for thirty days and Mr. Purcell's money will be found ready any day within that time. He is remarkably active for one of his advanced vearB and has always been noted for his sprinting abilities and powers of endurance.

The Postoffice ImprovementsThe first of the week the work of remodeling the quarters of Postmaster Voris were begun. Wide arches will be cut in the wall to connect the room on the north with the present quarters. The ncuv addition will be used as the I money order department and when the! large safe and other fixtures are moved over more and much needed room will I be furnished in the mailing room. A large and spacious skylight villi be put! in the rear of the present room to iet in daylight that has hitherto been sadly! deficient. Tennyson on Spring.

We have the word of Alfred Tennyson f®r it that in the spring the young man's fancies lightly turn to thoughts of love. It is singular that the great laureate ommiited to. mention the fact that it is in the spring that a considerable portion of the human race turn to taking Hood's Sarsaparilla. Probably ^nothing but the difficulty of finding a good rhyme for that invaluable remedy deterred him. Certain it is that the old-time domestic remedies are generally discarded in favor of the standard blood purifier, Hood's Sarsaparilla, which has attained the greatest popularity all over the country as the favorite SpringJ Medicine. It purifies the blood an4 gives nerve, mental, bodily and (digestive strength.
