the badly drawn ordinance by
which the water works company iB enabled to increase the tariff for water at such altitudinoui prices, a republican mayor and council are now reeeiviug the curses of many citizen*. Some assert that the ordinance was passed and became a la when Tom Sti! well was mayor. He asserts, however, that the administration following him—which was that of Russell—is the one upon whom the blame should be placed for the high rates for water th it the company is charging. Anyhow it is all republican. whether Stilwell or Russell were foremost in urging their adoption.

ly voices the sentiments of his constituents in urging as he did last week with other western representatives, the President to sign the seignorage bill, which would add $05,000,000 in silver to our circulating medium. The west does not fear an over supply of silver money. The east t-loes, for its capitalists could not then control the money market as they do now with gold as the single standard of money.
Senate is just getting ready to
take hold of the Wilson tariff bill afttr it hai been in the hands of the ootnmittee for over two months. It seems probable tint it will bo under discussion for the next four months and before it is ready for the signature of the President half the summer will be over, it is such operations as this that give the country such a disgust and contempt for the managers of the Senate.
Now if Harrison can got some college or Y. M. C. Association in the south to engage him to deliver a course of lectures on "constitutional law" between now and the next national republican nominating convention, his boom for renonnnation for President, will look real encou ragi ng.
Prospective Democratic Candidates.
The republicans hold their nominating county election early in June. The democrats will not probably select a ticket until August. Het.ce there is no hurry on the part of the candidates of tho latter party to announce their names. There will be for the various county offices quite a number of candidates of the democracy but not so many as in some former years. If tho new fee and salarly law continues in force, as some think it will, candidates will be fewer. The present emoluments of most of the county offices are not at all satisfactory to most aspirants. There is a belief, however, that the next legislate will so amend the law that these positions will next year have more money in them, and this without question is the inducement with many candidates tha' moves them to ask positions at the election in November next.
For the office of Auditor on the democratic ticket there will this year be three candidates at least, viz. Benton Snyder,Ripley p., James Johnson of Walnut and Win. Hunt, present surveyor, of Crawfordsville. Any of these would be satisfactory to tho party, as anyone of them voiild till tho offico with credit to himself. If the present salary law re mains in force and either of them shou'd be elected he will receive ?2,600 pir year only, out of which he must pay two or three deputies.
For ShenlV, it is said, that John P. Hible oT Goal Greek, will be again a candidal. He made a good official before. It is also reported that Lew Dickerson. of the Tannenbaum clothing house, will'-shy bis castor" in he ring and aim to secure the position. The name of GlilT. Hill, a substantial farmer and first class citizen, living southeast of Ladoga, has frequently been mentioned for the place.
For Treasurer, Hen Warbington. tho present efficient deputy in the Treasurer's office, will seek the position. Mr. Merrill of Waynetown. who is held in esteem by his neighbors of Wayne township. will also, we learn, be a candidate for Treasurer. This office under the new law is said to be the most remunerative of any. yet at .the same time the responsibilities are much greater.
There are two Commissioners to elect one each for the 1st and 21 districts John Fullen, the present incumbent as Commissioner from the 2d district, on being asked tho otherday if he would be a candidate said be did not know. We have heard of no aspira-ils for the place unless he may be one. Tho republicans have four candidates for Commissioners at this time from this district.
Hon. I). McCallister will be a candidate for re nnination for Representtative in the State legislature. If there are any other names mentioned we have not heard of them. The offices of Surveyor. Prosecuting Attorney. Co'oner and other various positions, will be to tiil this fall, and new men will bo chosen, but who are candidates for these places we have not learned.

Tennyson on Spring.
We have the word of Alfred Tennyson for it that in the spring the young man's fancies lightly turn to thoughts of love. It is singular that the great laureate ommiited to mention the fact that it is in the spring that a considerable portion of the human race turn to taking Hood's Sarsaparilla. Probably nothing but the difficulty of finding a good rhyme for that invaluable remedy deterred him. Certain it is that the old-time domestic remedies are generally discarded in favor of the standard blood purifier, Hood's Sarsaparilla, which has attained the greatest popularity all over the country as the favorite Spring Medicine. It purifies the blood "and gives nerve, mental, bodily and .digestive strength.

In all diseases of tho nasal mucous membrane the ^remedy used mutt be non-irritating. Xc thing satisfactory can be accomplished with douches, snuffs, powders or astringents, because they are irritating, do not thoroughly reach the affected surfaces and should be abandoned as worse than failures.
