inge bpgan ubout Feb. 1, but until last week no great attention was attracted outside of the immediate neighborhocd of the church. John and Charles Scott and Mis» Anna Huffman are in charge of the meetings. The former cume from Harrodslmrg, Ind., aud the i,ly from Illinois. They are very igworunt, and are operating in an ignorant locality, hey adheru to no denomination, but claim theirs is the only true religion. They neither preach nor sing, but pray long and loud. They cure the sick, heal the halt and lame ana assist the blind, i'hoy operate by the laying on of hands, and claihi they are the only true agents of the Lord. helher ihuv be impostors or sincere, they have awakened a tremendous sensation 111 this vicinity. Their subjects, or victims :i» some term them, go into trances, in which they remain for hours with eyes set and arms extended over their heads, all the time muttering a sort of gibberish.
TIMED TO IWTCII A S'I'Ali
On Friday night last Marcus Lucas, a prominent farmer, attended the meeting which began at 0:.'t0 p. 111. and closed at 1:30 a. in. the next morning. Jle went into a trance and remained in that state for abwiit ten hours. Ho went through tho woods following a star which he claimed was the star of Bathlehem. and onlv desisted at daylight. His body was lacerated terribly by thorns, as he haol discarded ali his clothes, claiming Christ wore none and neither would he. lie went violently insane as tho result of his night's experience, and has been taken to the hospital at Indianapolis. Hip favorite expression is that he never had so much fun as with Jesuq." A young lady of Fox Ridge, a suburb of this city, is under tkeitiMuence of these preachers, and is rapidly losing her mindasaresult.
A visit was paid to the scene of the meeting the other night. A teii-iuilc drive was necessaiy. One of the daytime meetings was just closing. Some of thfi people ,v *re in a pitiable) condition. One young lady was laid out in a wagon, unconscious, with her arms extended heaven ward, or body rigid. A physician who was present gave it as his opinion that the patient was sutl'ering from catalepsy. The churvh is situated in the backwoods, in a lonely spot, just the pluco for tho meetings. The services are uproarious for a while, after which the trance state conns on and then the victims are laid out on benches, wnere they remain for hours. Eicven were observed under tho influence at the same time.
A llAL'f SMOt* LI) 1!F. CALLED. Physicians who have been called in state tho practices indulged are very injurious, and if a halt is not called the entire district will go crazy. Thomas Heath, a reputable citizen, states he was followed from the church Monday night by an apparition—what appeared to him to be a woman dreBi-ed in a burial robe. The vision accompanied him to his home, disappearing at his door. He has been told that it was a dead female relative, and sinco then he has been greatly disturbed. ,•
In the past few days the advance guard of the strange religion has visited this city. Meetings are held in private residences and the same methods are tieiug used. Only tho most ignorant, as a rule, fall under the power, but some of the more sensible aro mesmerized.
Against Stock Runnius at Lartre.
There is a law on the statues of Indi ana against stock running at large. It seems, however, that seven years ago the board of commissioners made an order allowing milch cows and sheep to graze at will on the public highways of Montgomery c.unty. There is great dissatisfaction in various parts of the county over this action of the Board at that time. Coal Creek township has entered a strong protest against the order in the form ot a petition of tifty names to the present Board asking that the act of seven years ago be rescinded. It is very questionable whether the board of commissioners has any right to make an order, either for or against, certain provisions of the law. At least Mr. Fullen thinks so. He says the Board of seven years ago acted unwisely aud that the allowing of stock to run at largo is as illegal now as it waa before the permissive order relating to cows and sheep was made. The Board will therefore take 110 action at the present time.1.:.

Lmn. Ok., Maivii li.—There is every prospect of a bloody fight here. Because of an attempt to expend city funds uselessly in South Enid Mayor Moore resigned and \Y. II. tiregg became acting mayor. The next day Moore made an attempt to withdraw his resignation. having been requested to do so by a large number of citizens, but* the council re fusee to allow hiin to do so, as it wanted to get rid of him. An injunction was issued by Judge Thompson against l!regg acting as mayor and another Judge dissolved the injunction on the ground that it was not brought in the right manner. When one man tried to get the clerk's books over a. hundred guns and revolvers Hashed into sight. March 1—The large number of vessel* arriving at this port from the West Indies within two weeks has, in connection with the violent fluctuations in the stock of the sugar trust, attracted considerable attention. It has never before been necessary to charter steamers from regular lines to carry the sugar croi) but this season several of the Southern Pacific company's boats have been pressed into service and have been making regular trips to Cuban port. For the week ended March 7 there were received at the three sugar ports of New York. In all diseases of the nasal mucous membrane the remedy used tmiEt be non-irritating. Nothing satisfactory can be accomplished with douches, sbtills, powders or astringents, because they are irritating, do not thoroughly reach the affected surfaces and should be abandoned as worse than failures.
