Sam Beach, who reeently left here for Nebraska, has changed his mind and will return to this county and try farming in Coal Creek township.

Mrs. C. M. Travis was called to Urbana, 111., Saturday by the death of her mother, Mrs. Saulsbury. The deceased was well known in this city.

Mrs. Sarah Johnston, at her home on east Main street, entertained all of her children and their families at dinner last Friday in honor of her 77th birthday.

Burglars attempted to enter the house of John Swearingin, on south Washington street, Friday night but were frightened away by the screams of Mrs. Swearingen.

Kittie Burton and Annie Null, a pair of feBtive "chippies," were run in by the police at a late hour Saturday night for refusing to get off the streets. They were released Monday morning.

Mrs. E. V. Brookshire's health is much improved. She expects to be able to leave the sanitarium at Battle Creek soon, and will go to Virginia or North Carolina to spend the winter.—Ladoga Leader

The Temperance Hotel of William Raub is a thing of the past. Last Saturday William's effects wore thrown bodily into the street for non payment of rent, amounting to the munificent sum of $25.,

A smooth young man is on the road making email purchases and always presenting a $10 bill in payment to be changed. On close examination the bill proves to have been raised from 1 by exacuting the cipher. Several small retailers have peen caught at, Terre Haute this week.

W. D. Jones, administrator of the estate of Amanda Driscoll, deceased, has bsought suit against Edmund L. Driscoll to'set aside the deed to a piece of real estate. It iB claimed that the deed was made without consideration, and for the sole purpose of defrauding the creditors of the late Mrs. Driscoll.

Two fine horses belonging to Joe Gray, who lives south of town ran together one day last week, while at play knocking one another down. Thoy lay as,if dead for some time and it is thought that the horses are crippled for life, if they ever recover at all. Mr. Gray says he would not have taken $300 for the team.—Waynetown News.

There was trouble in colored society circles last Saturday and the Mayor's office assumed the appearance of a blackbirds' picnic. Bart Clay had had Hattie Winthrow arrested for swearing at him and the whole of Darktown turned out to hear the trial. Bart made a good case of it but the court acquitted her. To Bart's rage and disgust he was arrested just after the acquittal charged with laying violent hands on the precious Hattie and was fined and costed $11.60.

The LaPearl show is at Bedford next Thursday. The county fair opens two weeks from to-morrow.

The Frankfort authorities are working tramps on the streets. James Warren was fined in the Mayor's court Saturday for fast driving.

The Citizen's National Bank of Attica has been authorized to resume business. Of forty applicarts for teachers' license in Warren county, last week, only four were males.

It is surmised that natural gas is pay ng quanities can be found in the vicinity of the West Lebanon.

The township schools begin the fall session on Monday, Sept. 18th. Over 20$ teachers are employed.

The attendance, from this county to the World's Fair will be larger than ever during the coming month.

Twenty new houses, many of them large structures, have been erected in the west part of town this summer.

Charles Davis tcok charge of the Sheriffs office on Tuesday. Ex-Sheriff Bible removed on Saturday to his farm west of New Richmond.

James Kelley, at one time a resident of Ladoga and a saloon keeper there, was killed some weeks ago on a railroad in Nebraska, it is reported.

The new portion of the iron bridge of the Monon north of town which was destroyed last April has been placed in position and ie now stronger and better than ever.

A letter from Henry Walter, Ogdon, Utah, will be found in this issue of THK REVIEW. Mr. Walter will remain some weeks in the west and is simply traveling to see a portion of Uncle Sam's domain.

Ex-Rev. W. Fred Pettit, of the Prison North, has lately enjoyed a renewal of vigorous appetite, and no failure of his vital forces is now expected. Ex-R«v. Pettit asks no better medicine than a reversal in the Supreme court of the verdict that gave him life sentence.

Charles H. McCarer died at the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. S. S. Thomson, on south Walnut street, last Friday night at the age of 43 years. The deceased graduated from Wabash College in 1875 and wus quite well and favorably known in this city. His remains were shipped to his old home in Evansville Monday for burial.

The joint committee of councilmen and natural gas consumers of Lafayette, as the result of a demand by the supplying company for an increase of natural gas rates, have agreed upon a one-third advance to be paid by private consumers leaving manufacturers and public buildings to be specially contracted for. Hereafter, if this increaB is accepted, ninedollar stoves will be $12, ten-dollar-and-fifty-cent heaters $14, and so on. The proposed increase is not acceptable to the gas company which wantB more.

There are some of our men in this town, who part their hair in the middle, sport gold watches bought on the installment plan and warranted to wear a hundred years, whose chief occupation is standing upon the street corners puffing cigarette smoke through their artistically curled silken mustache ogeling at young ladies as they pass. They would not exchange mental abilities with the wisest statesman in the land. In fact, they possess bruins of a very heavy calibre. While they may not be able to decide whether it was Columbus or Gen. Jackson who discovered America such insignfipant things never bother their Websterian brains but when it comes to base ball and the noble art of Belf defense they not only convince you that they possess intelligence of an extraordinary natnre, but that they are walking encyclopedias of universal knowledge.—New Richmond Enterprise.

Martha Wants A Divorce.

Mrs. Martha Buck Fishpaugh, has brought suit in the circuit court for a divorce from Henry Fishpaugh. She alleges failure to provide and desertion. Henry was the third victim who sacrificed himself at Martha's alter, her first husband being John Buck and the second B. K. Mullen. Martha has certainly had experience enough to know a good husband from a bad one..

Chairman Magoun of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe board says: "The Atchison company has arranged for an extension of the guaranty fund notes which fall due in November. There are 50,000,000 of these notes bearing per cent. The terms on which the extension has been made will probably be announced later."
