Diaturbud the Leader Editor. Juat after midnight last Saturday night, as t|»e stillness ot the earl/ Sunday mornihg began to lend emphasis to even the slightest souliclu, aad at time whon most of the population of Ladoga were enjoying luxurious slumber, the quiet air was rent with cries of -Murder,' —"He's killing me." Ths sounds seem, ed to come from the viciaity of ths M. E church. They awoke the Leader representative, who lives less than a square awty, aud in ths scant apparel usually worn during the Bleepiug' hours of a hot summer night, he rolled out of bed and ran to where it pesmed a good •ewe item was in the makiug. Oa Fraaklin street near the Cottage Hotel he found two females. One of them proved to be Bertha Hall, of this place who was tailing a tale of woe. She proved to be the on* who had uttered the cries for help. Around the corner on Elm street sat a man, the tramp who had attached the woman. The Leader man stood in the shadow, not so ssuch to keep cool, as to cobceal the fact that his raiment was scant. In the dooryards along either side of ths street he Baw ghostlike figures, and night-cap-ped heads were

windows. Tho crieB had attracted a few men who were Btill resting in front of the stores on Main street and they came runniug to the rescue. The Leader man then took time to put on a little more clothing, and returned to find that two women of loose morals, and their "friends" were out promenading when a tramp struck one of the men, George StcCoy, a bio# on the head and proceeded to appropriate his female companion. McCoy rap to Main street for help, and while he waa gone the woman called for aiji as stated abore. The tramp sitting on Elm "treet at first defied the crowd,, but soon took to his hee's and hid in Gill's heading yard. He could not be found. In fact, after hearing the details, no one cared whether the tramp was found or not. He had done nothing to merit punishment.
The women and their companions continued to keep up an annoying clatter until dajrjight. They spent Sunday in the woods west of town, and Sunday night went to Epperson's heading mill and tried to establish headquarters there, 1utat2 a. m., Cary Snyder, the town 'marshal, appeared on the sc^ne, captured the fair femalea, and put them in prison until morning. They wsre than taken before Just ids Talbot, arraigned as common proatitute8, pleaded guilty were fined 125 each, and having but fifty cents between them, were sent to jail. They were Berths Hall, of this place, and Lizzie Hal), one of Crawfordsville's toughsst women, who it seeats had helped to train Bertha in sin.
The men who ganged with the women Saturday night were numerous enough to make a small army, and we were unable to get their names without visiting the samp and remaining there, a thing we did not care to do. We have the promise of the authorities that the mjn shall be arrested should they again appear in town.—Ladoga Leader.

Last Saturday Coroner Bronangh filed his verdict on the killing of Wm. Hipesand daughter on the Vandal ia railroad on June 17. In hia verdict the Coroner exonerates the railroad company and lays the blame at the door Mr. HlpeB. The Oovfagton formal Muddle. Ibe affairs of this institution, after the flury of last weutr. have settled down, aud all connected with it are pursuing the even tenor of thair ways again. The board of trustees, at meeting held on last 1? riday aftern jun, for the purpose of acting upon the resignation of Prof. Burton, decided to accept the same when ho shall hare paid or settled all indebtedness contracted by him in connection with tbe school, and also made provision for the payment of the expense of completing the present school year. The further action of the board was the appointing of a committe of five business men and attorneys whose duties it were to ascertain what legal action either civil or criminal could be taken against Mr. Burton in this matt®r. The board then promptly guaranteed the payment of teachers and expenses for the balance of the school year, and ordered that the business of the school go on. Mr. urton failed to respond to the request of the board, and quietly left the city for Crawfordsvilie on Saturday night, and has not since returned. A stock company composed of prominent citizens and business men of this city is being formed which is designed to put the school upon a firmer and better basis than ever.—Cov ington Friend.
An Italian Pleasantry-
!i'
Frank Marr, the Italian, and( his white wife, got into a family brawl in their rooms in the Harter block Friday night. The wife's bcreams of "murder!" "help' soon attracted a large crowd on street and awakened the sleeping policeman around the corner, who was forced to climb the stairs and arbitrate matters. The trouble grew oat of Mrs. Marr's visit to tho merry-go-round where her husband found her astride a gaily painted thoroughbred. Frank went home and barred the door and When his festive spouse arrival she gained admittance by smashing her way through with a brick. This precipitated a lively fight in which the husband was getting the best of it when the police arrived.
