Garret Rhorer, who has been so poorly all summer, is improving. Farmers are hauling in new wheat as late as 10 o'clock at night,

Miss Anna Jackman is sewing this week for Mrs. Fannie Booher. A great many people here think they can burn wood cheaper than gas.

Cox A Lewis have their foundation completed for their new store room. Lock Booher and son make $10 a day filling the gaB ditches with a grader.

George Miller has commenced to learn the tinner's trade with W. W.Chambers. William Boots bas bought. JF. W. Campbell's residencejin the south end of town.

Threshing has commenced and early in the morning you can hear whistles calling the men to work.

The Vandalia track has been raised about two feet at Mais street and eleven feet across Honey creek.

Grace Smith and her Sunday school class picniced at Bunker Hill, Tuesday. They report a good time.

The steam shovel will complete its work here next week and then go to Cutler to do a lot of work there.

Wheat in this part of the county is not very good as a general thing. The hay and oats are good. Corn will be an average crop if the rain comes soon.

Darlington is booming and real estate is in good demand. Our merchants are having a fair trade considering the rush of work among the farmers and the drought.

James Allen, living north of here, had a fine mare stolen from the pasture last Monday night, and Levi Fisher had buggy and harness stolen. No clue to the thief.

Traveling men say Darlington is the liveliest aud best little town in the state. Now, why some man don't build a hotel here and make a barrel of money every year is what is puzzling the biggest fool in town.

Tho citizens of Darlington and vicinity will meet at the Christian church next Monday evening to make arrangements for tho old settlers' meeting at this place. All old citizens are requested to be present.

Joe OWBIOV, living one mile west of town, has taken up two sorrel mare mules about twelve years old. Any body proving property and paying expenses can have tho team by calling on ftr. Owsley.

D. B. Wray has one hundred head of hogB, large and small, also a very fine male hog. His grandsire sold for three hundred and fifty dollars.

Frank Harlan, one of Now Market's best boye, is now conductor on the Tremont, Elkhorn Missouri Valley R. R., has been visiting friends at this place.

YOUNTSYILLE.

Our groceryuian and postmaster have a very extensive pop trade at present. Wm. Lebo and family of Florida, a former resident of Yountsville, are visiting relatives here. "The City of Cleveland and its Environments" was the Bubject of the address by Rev. Grimes last Sunday evening.

William Hombaker. a representative teacher of the Chicago, schools is spending a two weeks' vacation with his parents.

The contractors are workiag on the new graded school building which will contain two handsome rooms and a hall.

For the last two weeks, business at the carriage factory has given its envi ronments the appearance of a farmers' reunion.

An ice cream supper will be given at the M. E. church, Saturday evening, July 22nd, for the benefit of thatchurch. All are invited to attend.

Mr. J. M. Chaffer is here from Florida, preparatory to selling his farm. He owns an orange grove, and will make that place his future home.

A. J. Love is handling "Ben Hur" flour under the employ of Snyder son.

Mr. and Mrs. Stage, of Valonia, Jackson county, are spending a vacation here with ielatives and friends.

public that we have never had a trustee who has done more to broaden the ideas of education in our township than tho present incumbent, by the interest he has taken in our schools. As the trustee, so are the schools.
