A large swarm of bees flew into and on a window of Ridge's tailor shop on Sunday afternoon. Work was suspended altogether about that shop oa Monday. They were finally secured and removed in the evening.

While burning some rubbish in the rear of .T. K. P. Thompson'ssecond hand storo last Saturday the flames were communicated to some bed mattresses and for a time it looked as though the whole block was doomed. The bucket brigade and fire department quelled the flames.

Dr. Allen S. Murray, of Frankfort, pleaded guilty to the charge of perjury last Thursday, and was given a sentence of two years in the penitentiary, which he has commenced to servo. Murray wasont of Frankfort's leading physiians and a leading membei in the Methodist church, being superintendent of the Methodist Sunday-school, aud he has a wife and two children who are well respected.

The money spent by the Brice Thomas people 011 the Monor. after it was taken out of Dr. Brevfogle's hands was shown Thursday to have resulted in^ gettiug tho track in condition to permit of a speed of seventy miles an hour around the curves on the Knobs. Train No. from Chicago was an bc^ur and eight minutes late at Kloomingtrn. This was made up in 103 miles between Blcommgton and Louisville,the time being two hours and 16 minutes. This included nine station stops, two crossing stops, care under the blocks and slow time over the bridge and through 1/ouisville.—Courier Journal.

Mike Kelley's Saloon Bobbed. Burglars forced the front doors of Thompson fc Co.'s grocery store, Overman & Co., clothiers Moulton & Co., druggists, and the back door of Kelley's saloon at Itockville Saturday night. Nothing was missed except from Kelley's saloon where they got a little money. They attempted to blow the safe open. They drilled two holes into the front of the safe, and tried to blow powder into it with a quill tooth-pick. They broke their drills and twisted the haudles off the door with a cinch pipe wrench. They left all of their tools at Kelley'6.

A special from Portland. Ind., to Saturday's Indianapolis Sentinel says: "Frank P. White, a Pennsylvania oil driller, was today convicted by jury of assault and battery with intent to commit a criminal outrage ubon the person of his stepdaughter. Mrs. Essie Hoffner, and given two years in the penitentiary and fined $2,500. White worked here about a year and boarded with Mrs. Wilson, Mrs, Hoffner's widowed mother. Last Febuary ho returned and married Mrs. Wilson. His wife did all ir her power to save him from the penitentiary, but to no avail."

In the Jungles of Fountain.

Fountain county paid out $139 for fox scalps during the last yoar. This is enough to make a horse laugh. Do we live in the wild and woolly jungles of the far west? Does some one run a fox farm? NEW YOKK, June-'C.—Thecommittee of the New ,1 ersey Central railway employes, representing '. engineers.the liremen, the conductors, the trainmen and telegraphers, have met the officials of the road for a final adjustment of their grievances, which have been agitated for a long time.

The meeting was most satisfactory 10 both the officials and the employes. One of the most serious grievances the men had was that of long runs without extra pay. This wis arranged by the officials fixing the day at twelve hours, the men to receive overtime for more than twelve hours' work.

June funeral services of Senator Leland Stanford were hold on the grounds of Stanford University at Palo Alto, and the remains were placed in the family mausoleum. Special trains from San Francisco arrived here carrying a great many people. The most intimaU friends of the late Senator were driven to the university, which is several miles from Menlo Park. Others were taken by the train to Palo Alto station, which is near the college grounds. Employes of the ranch, numbering 150 men. acted as escort The services were simple. Bishop Nichols read the burial service of the Epis'-opal Church, and the Choir of Ox-ace Church, San Francisco, sung several hymns.
