THE FACT

That AYER'S Sarsaparilla CUKES OTIIEKS of Scrofulous Diseases, Eruptions, Boils, Eczema, Liver and Kidney Diseases, Dyspepsia, Rheumatism, and Catarrh should be convincing that the same course of treatment WILL CURE YOTJ. All that has been said of the wonderful cures effected by the use of

AyER'S

Sarsaparilla

during the past 50 years, truthfully applies to-day. It is, in every sens% The Superior Medicine. Its curative properties, strength, effect, and flavor are always the same and for whatever blood diseases AYER'S Sarsaparilla is taken, they yield to this treatment. When you ask for

AyER'S

Sarsaparilla

don't be induced to purchase any of the worthless substitutes which are mostly mixtures of the cheapest ingredients, contain no sarsaparilla, have no uniform standard of appearance, flavor, or effect, are bloodpurifiers in name only, and are offered to yon because there is more profit in selling them.

AyER'S

A FATAL ACCIDENT.

A VANDALIA WOfiK TBALN COLLIDES A WAGON AT THE DANVILLE ROAD 0K0SSING

William Hipes and One Daughter Killed Outright and Another Receives Serious Injuries-

The intersection of the Danville gravel road and the Vandalia railroad, about one mile and a half southeast of the city, was the scene of a terrible accident last Saturday morning about 8 o'clock in which William Hipea and hiB 18 year old daughter Rena met horrible deaths while his 15 year old daughter, Nellie had a narrow escape. The crossing is a very dangerous one. The roada cross diagonally and the trains approach from the south through a deep cnt, completely obscuring them from view. On Saturday morning Mr. Hipes and his two daughters were on their way to this city to do some trading. They were riding in a big road wagon, the rumble of which probably prevented tho occupants hearing the warning whistle of the construction train as it approached the crossing. The wagon was squarely upon the track when the engine struck it. The vehicle was demolished to kindling, while strange as it may seem the horses were uninjured and proceeded straight to the city. Mr. Hipes was knocked about 20 feet down the track and was killed almost instantly. The youngest daughter was thrown clear over the fence while the eldest lay upon the pilot of the engine. The train was stopped as quickly as possible and returned to the scene. Miss Rena waB taken from the pilot unconscious, where she lay with her head in a basket of crushed eggs while she clasped firmly in her right hand an umbrella She and her father were carried to the caboose and brought on to this city, while Miss Nellie was able to walk with assistance to a house near the crossing. Dr. Ensminger was summoned and after examining the oldest daughter who had been conveyed to the home of Frank SkaggB pronounced her injuries fatal and after lingering until 9 o'clock in the evening death relieved her. She never regained consciousness. She was badly cut about the head and breast. Mr. Hipes' skull was fractured, the left side of hiB face crushed and his right arm broken.

Death was almost instantaneous, Miss Nellie who was thrown over the fence had a miraculous escape. While she waB badly bruised and shaken up she will recover all right.

Fletcher McDaniel, who was plowing in afield near the crossing, was the only witness of the terrible affair. He heard the train whistle for the crossing as usual. A minute later he heard another whiBtle for brakeB and looking up saw the wagon struck. He hastened to the scene and was the gentleman who lifted the dying girl from the pilot. Miss Nellie says she heard no whistle until they were fairly on the track. The train was within ten feet of them before they saw it. Then she heard the whis tie for brakes. Dave Martin and Wm. Harris convayed the sad intelligence to MrB. Hipes and the poor woman's grief can better be imagined than described. The scene between her injured daughter and herself was truly touching, while no pen could portray her agony over the body of her husband at the undertaker's office.

Mr. Hipes was one of the most sub stantial and honored citizens of the county. He owned and lived upon what is known as the McLaughlin farm, consisting of 293 acres lying between Tinkersville and Mace. At the time of his death he had upon his person $87.79 in money and a deposit check for 816.75 in the First National bank. His family consisted of his wife and three daughters, the youngest of whom, Ollie age 12 years, was at home with her mother at tho time of the accident. The news of tho catastrophe was a terrible shock to tho whole community and created no end of excitement. The poor widow has the sympathy of the whole community in her hour of trouble.

in the circuit court for $16,000 damages against the city of Crawfordsville. In hie complaint the plaintiff alleges that while he was at work on thej central school building last fall he was badly injured through no fault or neglect of himself, that while working on the third story a ladder was removed, and he not being notified, fell while attempting to descend. The injuries necessitated the amputation of his leg and rendered him unfit for manual labor. He thinks that $16,000 is about the extent of his damages.
