James Mahan, of Kansas, is on a visit to friends hero. More potatoes have been planted here thiB season than ever before.

Mollie Barney spent the first part of the week with relatives here. Dr.lDrake has improved his home by lifting his yard above high water mark.

Our new post master still hangs fire. Lynn's time is out and he is holding over.

The old Mills House with its new lady proprietor, is doing well as it deserves to do.

One drummer with twelve trunks unloaded at the Midland depot Tuesday night.

The Misses Henry were at Crawfordsville Monday last having some deeds recorded.

Oliver Byrd and family, of Kansas, are on a visit to relatives here and are likely to remain.

Monday was a field day for Ladoga folks and vicinity to attend to business in the court house at the county seat. It was a^fine large day.

Young squirrels are very scarce this year. Homer Chalfant, our R. R. Agent, is off on a visit to Ohio.

Young chickens are very scarce here, on account of the bad spring. Dr. Swisher has sold all his effects and gone to the east part of the state, to locate. '.

The fine weather has giyen the farmers fresh courage and the prospect for crops is good.

There is talk of an elopement not far in the future. We will see what we see. Let 'em 'lope.

There are but few going to the World's Fair from here. The high price at living in Chicago has detered a great many.

A few days ago Mr. Kirkpatrick at this place, loBt a horse bj a bull hooking it. The horse was cut so bad it had to be killed.

Grant Agnew, our coming hustler, in the democrat ranks, was a caller here last week. Grant has a host of friends in old Madison.

James Duskey's little daughter was severely bitten by their own dog last Sunday. The dog would probably have killed tho little girl, had not help arrived.

The east bound train on the Clover Leaf railroad killed five fine horses for Wesley Kirkpatrick last Monday night. They were all killed at once. The loss is quite large.

Mr. ,Brookshire of democrat fame, will be remembered by the voters in time to come, also one of the gentB who now occupies a position in the court house, will not be forgotten for meddling with affairs that did not concern them. We have got it in for both of you, should you ever come out for office again.

Ira Booher will trade buggies and surreys for a few good horses. They must be sound and in good flesh. Call early if you want to trade. He ha* a large stock ef fine work on hand.

Two thousand Sunday school children and teachers will be here from Terre Haute on the fifteenth of this month. They will have a grand picnic in our park. This will be the largest crowd evor in this placo.

A tramp tailor struck our town and put up thro* days with Mrs. Wheeler. lie then skipped out but was arrested at Manson and brought b(\ck by Marshal Miller, but was released as no case ceuld be made against him.

Israel Kogel is here on a visit from Kansas. Samuel Dredge is running a huxtor wagon. Frank Sntton has a boy that weighs 2 pounds. Dad Snydor is strictly In tho garden business. Our new elevator man is doing a good business.

William Iiouk has gono to his farm noar Frankfort. Hcv. Trout filled tho pulpit at tho Christian church last Sunday.

The colt show was well nttonded and lots of red ribbons was taken away. Some people say our hack man is a little too gabby, but he attends to his own business.

It is strango that a poor mau that hat) a sick family will borrow $5 and gamble it all away.

Charles Marvin, a Clover-Leaf brakeman, while Bwinging from his train as it passed Clark's Hill, was struck by a semaphore and iriBtantly killed.

The Vandalia will put on its new fast trains next Monday. The north bound train will pasB through here about 2 30 p. m. and the south bound at 8 p. m.

Mrs. Sarah Jackson, wife of Andrew Jackson, died at her home south of Mace last Tuesday of dropsy at the age of 70 years. The funeral occurred Thursday.

Indiana's building at the World's Fair will be dedicated with great pomp on Thursday June 15. It is thought the railroads will offer special low rates for the occasion.

George F. McDonald, the liveryman, and Mise Ida E. Sandlin were quietly married Tuesday evening by Rev. W. J. Howe. The happy couple are now on their wedding tour to Cincinnati.

Mike Sullivan was arrested Wednesday at the instigation of Rice IngalB who charges him Jwith striking her in a rude and insolent manner. Mike denies the charge and will stand trial.

Travel from this locality to the World's Fair at Chicago is becoming much more frequent as the warm weather draws near. Scarcely a day passes now that does not find some one or more people taking trains for Chicago. The "gouging" so frequently spoken of as being practiced upon visitors has been greatly exaggerated. Good places for lodging and meals at reasonable prices can easily be obtained now in that city.
