The Hew Catalogue.

The catalogue of the sixty-first year of Wabash college, Crawfordsville, is just from the press. Its appearance is of special interest. aB it brings before the public in official announcement the several changes and advances under the administration of President Burroughs which began last fall.

The increase of teaching force is marked, The faculty numbers twenty, as over against fourteen last year. The chair of history and sociology is filled by the appointment of Prof. C. A. Tuttle of Amherst college, who has studied extensively abroad, and received

hiB

de

gree of doctor of philosoph) from the uniyersity of Heidelberg, Germany. To the chair of oratory, Prof J. M. Chapman of St. Johnsbury, Vt., comes after fifteen years' experience of successful work in New England. During the past year Dr. R. J. Cunningham has boen appointed associate professor of philosophy with President Burroughs. A department of hygiene and physical culture has been established and is filed by Prof. E. G. Horton, a recent graduate of Cornell university. The work of the college has been organized in three departments, those of philosophy, language and literature, mathematics and science. The work of these several departments is fully set fourth in courses, philosophy offering thirteen, language and literature twenty-three and mathematics and science twentyeight, making a total of Bixty-four.

The statement regarding the material equipment of the college jshows an investment of over a quarter of a million in grounds, buildings, apparatus and appliances. Notable is the opportunity for advanced study afforded by the scientific laboratories, the collections of the museum, and the magnificent library recently completed at a cost of $40,000 and supplied with nearly thirtyfive thousand volumes, The course of study has been rearranged on certain definite principles which are calculated to produce the largest results with the least expenditure of time on the part of the student. Two degrees, those of bachelor of arts and bachelor of science, are offered at thd close of four years of college work, during whieh the Btudent is permitted as he advances to choose more and more fully certain lines of study calculated to fit him for the profession or calling he may desire to enter in life.

The course is especially calculated, as thus enlarged and rearranged, to fit for the law, medicine, teaching and journalism. while the preparation for the ministry, for which Wabash has been noted is not forgotten.

Swindled Out of $4,000.

Another confidence game has just come to light in which John Stipp, a leading farmer of Monroe county, is said to be the victim. About two weeks ago a stranger appeared in Bloomington. Going to a livery stable, he secured a horse and buggy, stating that he would return in the evening. Meanwhile, a confederate had formed the acquaintance of Mr. Stipp and bargained with him to purchase what is known as the Bed Stone quarry, worth not leBS than $40,000, but which he offered for 4,000 cash. The trade was finally agreed upon. Both men went to town when the other confederate appeared and said he would close up the papers. Stipp went to the bank and procured $4,000 cash and the papers having been arrang ed he and one of the confederates started for BStipp's house, three miles south of Bloomington. The money was placed in a box, and when the house was reached the confederate said he would drive to the quarry two miles distance, to return in an hour, and handed a box to Stipp who went to the house. After waiting awhile and the man not return ing Stipp opened the box and found it empty. The swindlers has his $4,000.

The horse and buggy were found stable at Clay City, where a stranger had left it. Stipp is one of the oldest and best-known farmers of the county, and is worth $75,000. He is regarded as a shrewd business man.

Seriously Injured.

James Smith has been engaged in building a barn for Isaac Hunter, who lives a few miles north east of town and on Friday he fell from the top of the same to the ground striking on his head sad shoulders. Dr. Hamilton was called to attend his injuries and reports him in a very critical condition. He was unconscious at the time of the Dr'e visit, who found hie arm broken and the blood coming from hie nose and ears. Dr. made another visit yesterday evening, but we could not learn to what extent the unfortunate man's injuries reached. However it is certain that he is hurt very bad, but it is hoped net eerious.

Up to this time, Saturday morning at 9:30 Smith has not recovered sufficiently to speak to or recognize anyone. His condition is becoming eerious and his friends fear the results.—Waynetown News. ..

Talking of patent medicines—you know the old prejudice. And the doctors—some of them are between you and us. They would like you to think that's what cured thousands won't cure you. You'd believe in patent medicines if they didn't profesB to oure everything— and so, between the experiments of doctors, and the experiments of patent medicines that are sold only because there's money in the "stuff," you lose faith in everything.

And, you can't always tell the prescription that cures by what you read in the papers. Se perhaps, there's no better way to sell a remedy, than to tell the truth about it, and take the risk of its doing just what it professes to do.

That's what the World's Dispensary Medical Association, of Buffalo, N. Y., does with Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery and Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription.

If they don't do what their makers Bay they'll do—you get your money back.
