S. AYERS & CO.,

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.

ANOTHER MONON WRECK.

An Engineer Loses His Life But Passengers Escape Without Injury.

A wreck occurred at Broad Ripple near Indianapolis on the Louisville, New Albany & Chicago, Monday morning, that mashed up two cars and the engine in all five cars loft the track. One man, engineer George T. Plant, ,vas killed and three others injured.

The train consisted of a mail and baggage car car combined, a smoker, ladies' coach and two sleepers. There wore only two or throe people in the smoker the coach was about half full and about twenty persons were in the two sleepers.

At the northern edge of the town there is a curye about two thousand feet long. It is not a sharp curve, and the iron bridge north of the town can be plainly seen.

After the train had whistled for the street crossings, a blind horse wandered onto the track from the street south of the cattle-guard and was struck by the locomotive. The animal was knocked across the guard, and north of it went under the engine. ."The machine saems to havo ridden over it until the tender was struck. There the carcass became fastened, and was dragged perhaps three hundred feet. Tho drivers of the engine left the track finally, and the huge machine swayed back and forth and careened to the right, an.! fell about ten feet down a steep bank. It turned completely on its back. The smoke-stack and steam-chest were buried in the earth, and the ^bell was wrenched loose and thrown' some distance. The cab was torn off and smashed to kindling wood and tho top of it thrown bottom side up on the switch track near where the engine fell.n When the engino went down to the right, the remainder of the train shot oi? to the left. About '250 feet of main and side-track was torn up. Tho machinery of the engine is not badly damaged, and the oflicialssay that 8'2,bu0 will pay the entire property loss.

More of the Aldine Swindle. The persons litre who were caught in the ChicagoAldinohotel swindle Monday cceivect the following mysterious circular. For fear it is a sequel to the original swindle the proposition will be thoroughly investigated before accepting its terms: HAVE YOU 11EEN SWINDLED BYTIIK ,\LU1NE

HOTEL COMPANY OF CHICAGO? You have probably received by this time a circular, informing you that the Aldine Hotel Company is in a bankrupt condition and that thoyhavo transferred their plant to another party, who they claim will allow you only 50 per cent, of tho amount paid for their certificate, while charging a higher rate per day for accommodations, making the actual cost SG per day instead of S2.50, according to the original agreement. You have no guarantee that even this arrangement will bo carried out in good faith. Tlie very reasons which they gave for making low rates when they induced you to pay in advance are the reasons which they now give for not fulfilling their contract. Do not release them, but write at once a full statement of your case, inclosing any circular you may have received offering inducements ctc., to Hon. Carter Harrison, Mayor of Chicago. 111., and he will refer tho matter to the proper law oflicer, who will either force tho Aldine Hotel Company to make good their contract to you, appoint a receiver, sell them out and refund you your pro rata of the assets.

Act promptly or you will not got one cent of benefit from your investment. Any proposition they may rnako to you is not worth tho papor it is written on.

Somewhat Paradoxical.

The fishing jaunt of Cleveland some years ago on Decoration Day has boon tho subject of many anathmasand years on tho part of republican newspapers, and nono moro so than by our neighbor, tho Journal. How Cleveland was ridiculed and abused by that paper for daring to catch fish on Decoration Day all will remember. His duty on that day was very explicitly set forth, and there was no end 6eeminglj of the mean things said of him for daring to bait his hook on that day. But it is so much easier to preach than to practice, to tell others what course to pursue than follow it ourselves. On Decoration Day this week, a manager of that paper instead of remaining home and clothing himself in sack cloth and ashes hied himself with hook and line and repaired to the "Shades."' no doubt having had a good time, utterly oblivious of tho fact of the annual national decoration day and tho conduct of Cleveland some years ago. How many lish did you catch, young man?
