A SOOUNDBEL LYHOHED AT BED FOED.
A. Mob Executes Terrible Work oil a Murderer. A terrible tragedy was enacted near Mitcholl, on the Morion and C. M.. Road late Saturday afternoon. Conductor Lou Price was in charge of a mixed train which left this city during the afternoon, and among the passengers were John TurUy and hie father of River Vale. There was a long-standing feud between the Turleys and Price, growing out of The killing of several cattle Borne years ago by a train of wbice Price was conductor and the subsequent litigation Price was a witness for the railway company, and after long and costly litigation, in which the costs aggregated several thousand dollars, the case was settled in favor of the company. The Turleys were greatly embittered against Price, and were never backward in expressing their dislike. The conditions were, therefore, favorable for trouble. When Price passed through the car collecting fares, John Turley presented a pass drawn in favor of some one else. Price refused to recognize it, and insisted on the payment of the regular fare. Turely refused, in which refusal he was backed by his father, but the wrangle was finally settled by Dr. Bullitt, of Lawrenceport, who knew the parties, and who, to prevent trouble, gave the conductor the amount in dispute. Price then turned away to other duties, unsuspicious of danger, and this gave Turlay opportunity to use his revolver, which he did by firing two shots, one of which passed clear through Price's body. A traveling salesman prevented further firing. The conductor fell to the floor mortally wounded. The train thereupon backed back to Mitchell, and Price's family and friends were summoned from Seymour by special train. They arrived but a short time before his death, which occurred about 7:30 p. m.
The shooting occasioned great excitement, both at that place and at Seymour, the home of Price, and a mob determined that Price's life should be avenged by hanging Turley. It gathered at Seymour, secured a train and numbering about 200 people road over to Bedford, the county seat of Lawrence county on Sunday morning. It marched from the Evansville & Richmond crossing to the opera house, then out Fourteenth street to street, then south to Johnson's planing mill, which is just one square west of the jail. Pickets were then placed on all the streets leading to the jail, and no one was allowed to pass within the prescribed limits, and no one knew what took place after Turley was taken from the jail except the mon who did tne work.
Sheriff Holmes was awakened at 2:10 a. m. by a knock on the door, and in answer to his question, "Who's there?" the leader replied: "A prisoner." There had been several arrests during the day and night for drunkenness, and the sheriff thought he recognized the voice of nieht watchman Harris, and he opened the door. Instantly he found himself face to face with several ugly looking revolvers, and he was commanded to throw up his hands. He refused at first, but tho command was repeated, and the cold muzzle of a pistol was held to his head, compelling him to yield. He was then dispossessed of his keys, and was forcod to point out the cell in which Turley was confined.

Turley never spoke a word nor made a single plea for mercy. The whelo affair was over in twenty minutes, and by 2:30 o'clock not a stranger was to be seen on the streets. He was hung to the limb of a tree, the mob remaining on the ground only about 15 minutes.
And Still They Howl, v.
Why Judge Harney, last week, should have allowed Attorneys Haywood and Anderson?2,000 for preparing tho State's caso against Pettit is beyond THE TIMES' reasoning. When a criinial caBe goes to tho Supreme court the Attorney General is the official plainly designated by law to have exclusive control of the same, as will bo seen by reference to Section 5659 of the revised statutes of Indiana, which expressly provides, vis:—"Tho AttorneyGeneral shall prosecute and defend all criminal or State prosecution^ that are now or hereafter may be pending in the Supreme court of Indiana." In 24th Indiana, in the case of Stewart vs State page 124, the Supreme court declared that the A ttorney-General has "exel usi ve control of criminal prosecutions in the Supremo court." When the Pettit case went to the Supreme court—on appeal —the State's prosecuting attorneys were done with it, the Attorney-General talking it in charge, as required by law. By what right, then, are tho tax-payers of Tippecanoe county to bo further taxed in this seemingly unending Pettit job? Lafayette Times.

Cunningham's political future does not seem to be clear sinco the consul was appointed to Belfast, Ireland, a place ho has been so ardently seeking since before tho inauguration. Mr. Cunningham is still in the city notwithstanding the President's embargo, and has been calling at the State Deaprtment since then. It is believed that Cunningham will transfer his official aspirations to some other consulship, although he says nothing."
Patent medicines differ—One has reasonableness, another has not. One has reputation—another has not. One has confidence, born of success—another has only "hopeB."
Don't take it for granted that all patent medicines are alike. They are not. Let the years of uninterrupted success and the tens of thousands of cured and happy men and women, place Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery and Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription on the side of the comparison to which they belong. And there isn't a state or territory ao—nor hardly a country in the world, whether its people realize it or not, but have men and women in them that're happier because of their discovery and their effects.
Think of this in health. Think of it in sickness. And then think whether you can afford to make the trial if the makers can afford to take the risk to give your money back, as they do, if they do not benefit or cure ou.
