It is now aboii' six years since Dr. 15. Huntfiingr.r Frankfort. Ind., began making rrmilar visil'H io Crawfordsville, during wliieli lime he has treated hundreds of eases and performed scores of surgical operations for cataracts, cross •yes, closure of the tear ducts, etc., with a success that commends him .to the confidence of this entire community. SPECTACLES: Speciid attention to fitting spectacles and eye glasses for which purpose the doctor has one of the most elaborate anil complete set of perfecting testing appliances in the west. 'EYESTRAIN: Whieh requires glasses to be correct is one oT (lie most common •auses of weak painlul vision anil oT headache. It produces more headache of various kinds, especially sick and ner vous headache than all other causes combined. It is also a very common eause of weak, watery, sensitive, pain ful, smarting, heaviness and aching in. over back or around the eyes. When reading letters blue and run together.

These symptoms usually disappear when reading or close work is laid aside, but retiirnagain as often as either is re -Bumcd. These cases call for the highest skill in determining the kind and strength of glasses to prescribe.

A TRUSTEE'S LAW.

A very sensible bill, known as the Way bill was introduced at thiB session of the legislature fur Hie government of township trustees in their purchases of supplies for townships, but like many other pood moves was killed by some of the fools that unfortunately compose a portion of the general assembly. The law provided that in all purchases of goods involving an amount of the value of more than $100, the trustees must have the consent of the county commissioners. Whcro was anything wrong in this? An honest trustee would certainly not object- the dishonest, the schemers, looking out for all the money to bo made, regardless of the tax-payers, might. In some counties of Indiana t-'ustees have bankrupted their townships by the purchase of worthless supplies or by supplies five times in excess of the demand. They divided profits with the rascals who sold them school furniture, lightning rods, etc., and the tax payers were compelled to foot the bills. Nothing of this has been heard of lately, but what is to prevent it. Tin,re are honest trustcos in plenty, and yet others that are not. The Way bill, had it becomo a law, would have checkmated any attempts of this kind, and trustees who have been the victims of the wiles of sharpers, could have rested in security. It is somewhat remarkable that a bill so much in the interest of the people should have received so little attention at the hands of the legislature. It may be that a lobby in tho interest of school supplies

enough of tho members to prevent the passage of the bill if not, what reason for it not becoming a law?

OBITUARY LITERATURE. Nothing would be more welcome than something new in obituary literature, or its total banishment from newspapers. Cannot, somebody originate something new in this old time-trodden, stereotyped field. "Whereas," for instance, "it has pleased God in his infinite wisdom to remove,'' "Therefore be it resolved that we," spread upon the records"' and a "copy be furnished for publication," are some of the specimen phrases of this kind of obituary matter. It •vould be a welcome novelty if social and church organizations, who have used this plan of advertising their grief for the past 100 years, would adopt a change of some kind, or "resolve" that it be done away with altogether.

The efforts to amend the law, regulating the pay of county officers at this term of tho State legislature, has been a failure. It is evident that if any changes are to be made to the advantage of these officials it must be through decisions of tho courts. In the meantime officials who are dissatisfied with their pay can rejign, (which none of them will do) and plenty of hungry fellows who thirst for office can be found to take their places. There has never been a dirth of officeseekers in this country—the supply has always exceeded the demand.

Jim Murdock, Lafayette, Sharin, of Logansport, and a large number of other owners of stock in natural gas companies, have been aiming to lobby a bill through the legislature, which if made a law, would place the consumers of natural gas at the mercy of these stock holders. Politically all these men to hear their professions are "friends of the people," yet there a wonderful difference between precept and practic3.

Rhenmatism Quickly Cored. Three days is a very short time in which to cure a bad case of rheumatism but it can bo dono, if the proper treat, meat is adopted, as will be seen by the following from James Lambert, of New Brunswick, III. I was badly afflicted with rheumatism in the hips and legs, when I bought a bottle of Chamberlain's Pain Balm. It cured me in three days. I am all right to-day and would insist on every one who is afflicted with that terrible disease to uso Chamberlain's Puin Balm and got well at once. 50 cent bottles for sale by Nye & Booe, Druggists.
