Bob McComas, son of Squire McComas, had his hand badly crushed at Momence, 111., Thursday. Bob is fireman on the C. & E. I., railroad, but this accident will cause an enforced lay off of several weeks.

The saw mills near the Junction are being supplied with large numbers of oak logs to be cut up into lumber for the eastern markets. Some of these logs aro hauled from a distance of ten or twelve miles.

Judge Snyder and Benjamin Crane went to Rockville Saturday to argue the case of Hurley & Clodfelter vs. Sarah Doherty before Judge White. The court is expected to render a decision in a short time.

The holiday trado may bo said to be over in general after to-day, and business "from now on until spring will not be to the liking of most merchants. Tho trade has been fair in some lines of business, although not equal to that of several former seasons.

The doctors of Frankfort are evidently determined that their fees shall be largo enough to meet any possible advance in the cost of natural "gas. Their new bill provides for charges ranging in amount from 50 cents to $1,000. The man who made out that fee bill had evidently beon reading "Charge, doctor, charge with care." for nothing has escaped from the bill.

Willie Bill Kelly was arranged in the Mayor's court Saturday charged with maliciously twisting the tail of Dan Quinlan's calf. After hearing the evidence Mayor Bandel held that as it was Bill's first offenso in tho tail twisting business he would be allowed to go free but threatened him with a stone pile sentence on his next appearance in court. Bill is a resident of Calf Avenue in Goose Nibble.

Saturday night every saloon keeper in Lafayette was ordered to close his business at 11 o'clock that night and keep it closed until o'clock Monday morning. Sunday the majority of saloons hiid all screens and blinds removed and those passing on the sidewalk could see every piece of furniture and every bottle in the room. Quito a number who were in the habit of taking their constitutionals on Sunday— and who were caught without original packages at home—grumbled hoarsely at tho change.
