Did Any Body Around Here see the Elephant? A Sentinel special from Crawfordsville, Tuesday says:
Chawfokdsvii-le, Dec. 19.—[Special.] —A few nights ago au elephant was discovered in the barnvard if William Fordyce near this city.
The nest morning the place was found to have been wrecked, lences broken, corn cribs gutted, and everything was in a devastated condition. During the night the elephant had enjoyed himself, and having grown tired, left tlio place, taking several panncls of wire fence with him. He was traced to a swamp near by, but no one cared to disturb him. That night he returned to Fordyce's place and slept in "a strawstack. The presence of the elephant alarmed the neighborhood, and watchers were detailed to keep track of the animal in order to alarm the farmers should ho attack any farm-house. Friday night Manager Gray of the Groat American circus, with two men, arrived hero from JefTersonville. and with many town people went out to Fordyce's where Keeper Newman recognized tlio elephant as Sultana, one of the largest and fiercest of his herd. The gang of showmen attacked him with pitchforks and prods, and finally forced him to go into the barn.
The building was nearly wrecked and the brute's howls could be heard a distance of four miles, llo was finally captured. Sultan* escaped from the circus last Tuesday during the transforof stock at Waynetown, some distance from the Fordyce place.
The Duhme Fellowship.
Mrs. Ophelia Fowler-Duhme, wife of Charles II. Duhme, Esq., of Cincinnati O., and daughter of the late Moses Fow ler, of this city, has just made a donation of $5,000 to Wabash College. The ultimate object of the donation is to establish a perpetual fellowship to be known as the "Ophelia Fowler-Duhme Memorial Fellowship" in English language and literature. The donation at the same time completes the thirty thousand dollars which the college was compelled to raise in order to secure the donation of $30,000 made by Mr. Simon Yandes, of Indianapolis, on condition that the college raised $30,000 more. The gift is a noblo and generous one, and is most timely.. The friends of Wabash will rejoice that Mrs. Duhme has been moved to make it.—Lafayette Call.

For several days past wild rumors have been Hying around concerning the erratic business methods of Milo Tom linson, who until the present time, has been held in very high esteem by almost every person in the county. Mr. Tomlinson is a breeder of fino korses and lives on a line farm several miles north of thd city Some days ago Milo suddenly decamped for other pastures, taking with him about $1,400 in money and leaving his wife at death's door. About a year ago,Tomlinson got into hard lines financially. Instead of borrowing money in a legitimate way he obtained it through forging the name of his aged father, William Tomlmson to some Dotes. At the time of the deed it is at least charitable to presume that Milo thought he could meet these obligations as they fell due and his venerable father would be none the wiser. But as usual under such circumstances this did not prove the case. At maturity he could not meet them and rather than face his disgrace he left the country. It is rumored that his father will recognize all the paper so that none of his son's creditors will suffer. Some weekB since Tomlinson's barn burned together with a number of valuable horses and his loss was quite considerable. The affair is an unfortunate one and is generally regretted.
