MUST GET BAOK THEIR MONEY. Almost any move heretofore made regarding the World's Fair management indicates that Chicago is determined to get back all her investment in that enterprise and with big interest off of visitors attending it. Last week for instance, the restaurant privileges of tho World's Fair were granted to Chicago parties. They will bavo rooms in several parts of the grounds in which to feed the multitudes coming to the exhibition. The prices for different dishes of food have been published and are away up above the ordinary rates. For instance an oyster stew is .T cents, small beef-steak GO cents, a cup of coffee lo cents, and so on through tho entire list. Tlieeo prices are from .'i.'i to 'Jo per cent, higher than those ruling all over tho country east of the Mississippi, and indicate a determination to make a fortune within few months if tho public will only pay the prices demanded. Lodging, hack hire, and other necessaries demanded by visitors to the exposition will alfo no doubt bo distinguished by tho same altitudinous rates. The outside world by learning before hand the efforts that are to be made to Heoce them can preparo and provent much of this. Better, although it may appear verdant, that visitors take their prepared food with them and cousuine it within tho grounds than bo gouged, as they certainly will be. Better walk a mile than pay r0 or 75 cents to extortionate hack man for going tho same distance. Chi cago needs this money in her business and is preparing to pluck the straagers within her gates if they will permit it.
AMEND THE LIBEL LAW. Representative Thornton, of Clay, at tho ensuing session of the legislature will introduce a bill. Such a measuro should pass. Too many dead- beat petafogere lounge around every court of the State seeking to get action against newspapera in hopes of black mailing them through the present cursed libel law of tho State. The Crawfordsville bar has several of these dirty sneaks, termed lawyers, who failing to obtain an honest, decent, legitimate business, have turned their attention occasionally to newspapers and securing the consent of some strumpet, pimp or thief, havo induced them to enter suit againat th« publishers for some fancied injury, they think they havo received. This bill of Representative Thornton's, should it becomo a law would injure the "business" to a great extent of some of these alleged lawyers, yet tho public will be greatly benefitted.
THE international monetary conference has been in session at Brussels, in Belgium, for several days. Thero ar# some six or eight representative Americans present. and delegations from England, Austria, Franco and Italy are also in attendance. The object is to aim to to establish a uniform system of money between tho various nations if it can be determined upon, which at this time seems doubtful.
A NEWLY elected member of tho legislature writes that he expects to introduce a bill placing all the benevolent institutions of the State under control ot a non partizan board. The members of such a board will probably be therefore, to fill the requirements, deaf, dumb, blind and insane. That would probably be a non-partizan board.
A
bill to havo every 'noto and mortgage stamped by the assessor before it can be collected will be introduced at tho next session of the legislature. Th* object of it is to prevent so much of this kind of property from being hidden from taxation as it has heretofore bean. With many persons it would not be a popular law.
THIS excellent suggestion is from the Frankfort Crescent: A democratic legislature ought to either abolish the office of county assessor or limit his days of service. An amendment to ths gravel road law must also bo made, letting to the lowest responsible bidder tho repairs on gravel roads. Under tho present law the tax-payers are bled out of thousands of dollars they ought not to pay.
CONSTITUTING A COMMISSIONER.
There was considerable quiet gossip last week over tbequarrel between Commissioner Fullen and the County Auditor relating to the charges made by tho former, and various opinions expressed pro and con regarding it. Of thejnerits or demerits of the subject wo know nothing. The office ol County Commissioner is a very important one—much more so than is generally considered, and tho neglect of the people in putting forward the best man for tho place has been to their injury. It has beer, generally thought necessary to give this office to a farmer, yet in many respects most of them have been sadly deficient in the requirements of the position. A man may possess many broad acres and cultivate vast quantities of wheat and corn, and have the respect of all his neighbors and yet prove a very incompetent commissioner. A good commissioner should post himself thoroughly in county matters, know tho lawB relating to them and exercise his authority in the premises regardless of the fear or favor of any political party or party leaders. His place is to labor in the interests of the people, tho tax payers and no one elso. This in our opinion is tho ideal commissioner. Yot how many in the course of a decade do we havo of that kind? Most of them, our observation for many years tells us, have little self reliance or independence, and are oftonest controlled by tho wis^i or judgment of others than their own. Tho disposition of Mr. Fullen to investigate matters instead of taking somebody's word for it is commendable. That's what ho is elected to do. and though he may be rash and malicious, as some assert, he is suiting the tax-payers in gen-eral--those who have the bills to foot. If any man should be thoroughly independent of party leaders or men influential in the party it is the county commissioner. Ho needs to be to do his work thoroughly and ifliciontly.
A MILLIONAIRE'S DEATHJay Gould, said to be the second or may be third wealthiest man in America, died in New York eiry last week. His life is an example in one respect of the possibilities in a new country like this of the accumulation of vast possessions in a brief term of years, llo was not a very old man, not sixty years of age quite, we believe, yet his wealth accumulated mostly within the past twentyfive years, is estimated to be from §7i,000,000 to $100,000.0u0. Yet how was most of this obtained? Not by legiti mate business principles, but by speculation, by bribery of courts and law makers, by the crushing within his grasp of others less favored than him. self. The object of life, it would seem with most people in this age, is to get riches, get them by almost any means so you get them, and bo perfectly indifferent to the wisbes, hones or feelings of others, so you secure them. We have become, within the past few decades a nation of money makers and money lenders, and no sympathy nor sentiment distinguishes our actions. It is money, money, money noon and night and the better feelings of our nature in our rush to obtain it have been suppressed. We seek for it and retain it aa if w» were providing ourselves for the life into tho eternity where wo must go sooiaer or later. There seems to have been few distinguishing marks of charity in Gould's career, and tho good deeds, to be recounted for charity or tho betterment of mankind by him can quickly be told. What good ho might have done with his vast wealth he failed to do except when he was to bo directly benefitted. His millions were his, his alone, and the world had no business with them. But ho has disappeaied forever from tho face of the earth, to bo remembered only as a great money maker, and not as a benefactor.
THE OHIO VOTE.
Harrison's majority over Cleveland in Ohio is only 1,07^. This vote Created more surprise than that from any State at the last election. It has always been considered in campaign years that thero was a reliable republican state, that state was Ohio, and the result of last month was astonishing. It indicates what are amoog tho possibilities in a political warfare. Ohio, aside from New York, has much tho shrewdest politicians in the republican pary. is the homo of Sherman, McKinley and Foraker, and that in 1892 it would be so near lost to that party, is at present great encouragement to the democracy in future contests.

Wonderful Complexion No One Could Explain.
All Women Were Envious Of Her For Many
OJeatB.
Now They Know All About It amd Fol
low Hor Example.
A lady woll-known in our social circles has for years been at onco the envyj and admiration of all the ladies hereabouts, on account of the wonderful preservation of her health and beauty, and particularly because of her clear and dazzling complexion.
She has been many times urged by her acquaintances and friends to disclose tho secret of her marvellously youthful appearance. Last even'ng she grew confidential to a little knot of friends, among whom tho writer was present, and hor secret is now a secret no longer. "Why it is really no secrot at all," she said, a perfect complexion depends upon just two things, strong nerves and agood digestion.
Most women are excessively nervous, weak and languid, and as a result their complexions are sallow and their faces pinched, drawn and wrinkled. Female difficulties always aggravate the trouble. Few women have perfect digestion. Now obviously, if women wish sound health and good complQxiuns they must get their nerves strong, ttu ir digestion good and have no female weakness. Disorders of tho stomach and liver, with the consequent, clogging of the system, is very trying to the complexion. Tho best thing in the world to overcome these difficulties is Dr Greene's Xervura blood and nerve remedy for it is a wonderful strengthener of weak nerves, and gives a vigorous appetite and perfect digestion. It should lie used by ever} woman who is at all weak or run down. Besides, it is a vegetable remedy, pure and harmless.
MRS. MARY FRANCES LYTLE.
The above iB borne out by another no less popular lady. Mrs. Mary Frances Lytle, who resides at 2 Hunter Alley. Rochester, N. Y. In speaking upon tho same subject sho said:
I was very palo and dolicate and had no color whatever. I also had a very bad leucorrhoea all the time and suffered great pains at my periods.
I am now all well thanks to Dr. Greene's Nervura blood and nerve remedy. My face is plump and cheeks red, and my complexion pnre.
When I began the use of this most excellent remedy, I only weighed 81 pounds now I weigh 115 pounds and am still gaining. Dr. Greene's Nervura blood and nervo remedy is a wonderful medicine. I havo not had and trouble since I began taking it.
This great remedy is tho discovery of tbe eminent and well-known physician Dr. Greene, of .T W. 14th Sfroet. New York. He gives consultation to all free of charge, and those who cannot visit him at his offico. aro priviled to writo him all about their cases and thus get his advice by mail free.
It is certainly advisable for all to uso his remarkable remedy, whichj can bo procured at any drug store.
INSINCERE.
Most of those republican leaders and newspapers that say they wish Mr. Cleveland well and that ho may havo a successful administration, in most instances lie in that statement. There is hardly one of them but what really hopes his administration may be one of trouble, turmoil and dissension, and through which they may be enabled to again obtain control of the government, its positions and its treasury. Republican politicians aro built just that way. If they cannot rule they can gladly hope for any prospect of ruin. As dogs in the manger they cannot eat and dosiro to provent anybody else from Jso doing. It is likely, however, that things will move along satisfactorily to a majority of tho people whether they are pleasing to tho G. O. P. or not.
PiiicsiDKNT HARRISON'S last message to Congress was furnished to the public on Tuesday. Tho document seems to cover all subjects necessary for the attention of CoDgress, is conservative and sincere in its tone and is a worthy Stato paper.
