A couplo of weoks ago a •tranter call ed upon Supt. Zuck with the request that he be furnished with the names of Bome of tho teachers who had failed to get license at the regular examinations. Mr. Zuck complied by giving him a dozen or more names, among them being that of a lady who was already holding a license. This knowledge wat then re ported to the lady and a scheme concocted to get onto the fellows game Last Friday the lady received the following communication which she gave to Mr. Zuck:

Strictly confidential. The lady called as requested and the agent laid bare the very neatest and Surest scheme imaginable. He said that ho had in "air tight cinch'1 on a member of the State Board who had furnished him with a full list of questions and answers which ho was now retailing to unfortunate applicants at the extremely low Jlgure of $10, payable in anything except wild-cat money. The lady purchased the list which she turned over to Supt. Zuck. It was then readily 6een that the list was bogus and did not contain one of the questions that was to be propounded at tho examination. Saturday morning several of the old failures showed up in more than their usual happy style, but when the true list of questions was handed thtm they looked as though they had received a stroke of paralysis and soon excused themselves. Supt. Zuck then swore out a warrant for the. peddler's arrest, but the fellow bogged so pitoously that the Superintendent relented after Mr.
Blank had restored all the money lie had obtained in that manner. The agent declared that he had purchased the list in good faith from a Superintendent in an adjoining county for SoO and was out just that amount on account thoreof. lie claims this to,be bis Mrst and certainly last offense.

Miss lirace Works, a School Teacher, Has an Exciting Experierce
Ripley township had a sensation last week which was kept from the public several days in the hopes of uapturiug a guilty wretch.
Miss Grace Works is a very protty young lady of 18 summers and presides over district school No. 7 in Ripley township and boards with the family of John Brown, nearly a niilo distant. On Tuesday evening oflast week Mist Works was lato in closing and it was almost dark when she started home. As she was passing through a strip of woods she was startled by a'man stepping from behind a tree immediately in her path and demanding her to halt. His coat, pants and hat were turned wrong side out while his face was covered with lining torn from his coat. Miss orks' lirst thought was that it was a joke on tho part of some friend to frighten her and began to jost with him, but when the villian asked to see the color of her hosiery she became frightened and would have ran had not ho clutched her by the arm. He then began making indecent proposals, while Miss Works, prompted by womanly instinct, set up a series of yells. This
frightened the bruto, and^ covering the girl with a revolver he beat a hasty retreat, at the same time muttering curses in Gorman. Miss Works hurried on to her boarding house with all possible speed and told hor story, whereupon a searching party was institutod, but after a hunt of several hours without success the chase was abandoned. The
formerly lived in Yountsville and was employed in the Snyder mills. It is to be hoped the identity of her 'assailant will be ferreted out and tho scroundrel be tro ated to a taste of homp.
