MR. JOHN BONNIILL, the postmaster, should be made to walk the plank promptly next March. Ho worked early and late for the republican ticket, and took a most decided partizan Btand. This is contrary to the Bpirit and intent of the civil service law. In fact Bonnell aided by Col. Ed. Purviance and Major James Hamilton seemed to bo about the only real industrious workers tho party had in Crawfordsville at tho last election.
AND
where was Blaine when tho
lights went out last week? It is very probable that neither Blaine, Quuy, Clarkson, Dudley and scores of other republican leaders, are Bhedding any I tears over the defeat of tho national republican ticket. Some how or other
Harrison managed to gain more unpopularity among the leaders of his party than any man occupying the presidential chair in many years.
IT is said that immediately after March 4th, President Harrison will return to Indianapolis and again enter into the practice of law. His worship era will not be one-hundredth part as numerous after that time as now. He ifill sink into tho insignificance that has fallen to the lot of ex-PreBident Hays, who is hardly ever spoken of, and whom many hare supposed was not among the living. Such is greatness.

Last Saturday morning Mayor Bandol's bourt. was packed. Tho trial of the State of Indiana vs. Chas. McAllister being the magnet. McAllister was charged with having brutally whipped Walter Britton, one of his pupils at the Central school building. A jury of twelve men, good and true, was soon impaneled and the fun began. Prosecutor Moffett opened the case for the State and was followed by M. W. Bruner for the defense. Walter Britton the first witness was called. He related how the teacher had whipped him with a raw hide, slapped him with his hand, and thou knocked him down with

Jesse Sykes, an old fanner, residing three tniles west of Newport, met with a horrible death about 5 o'clock Sunday evening, lie was subject to epileptic fits and went out to the hog lot near his residence to feed a lot of fattening hogs. As ho did not apper when supper was ready, one of the members of his family went to the lot to see why he did not come to supper. Imagine the horrible sight that greeted that member of his family, who witnessed the hogs tearing the entrails out. and devouring them with a greedy appetite. Both legs and his hips were nearly stripped oi' their ilesh. The face and head had not been touched by the hungry hogs. Help was called and the

Several other boys in the class followed in succession on the stand and they all told the same story as Britton, almost word for word, having, no doubt, undergone a thorough rehearsal beforehand. The jury were out several hours but being unable to arrive at a verdict were called in and dismissed. They stood 8 for acquittal and 4 for conviction.
They Kept The Secret-
During the week of the Crawfordsville fair Mr. Fred Gowdy and Miss Amelia Helshouoer went to Danville, 111., and were quietly married. There was no reason for secrecy except that they desired to spring a surprise on their friends. They told no one of what had ocaurred until last Saturday when Mr. Gowdy, who is now employed at Logansport came down to visit his wife. There were rumors of the marriage at the time, and many have for some weeks bulieved that the wedding had taken place, but no continuation of the report could be secured. Mr. Gowdy was formerly a workman in the tailoring establishment of Wm. Widdop and Miss Holshousor has been employed there also for sotno months. She has spent most of her life here, and is well known by all.—Ladoga Leader.
