E. R. Boohor was first to finish husking corn. Tho wheat crop looks some bettor since the rain.

Col. Heath was here a couple of days buying Jersey cows. Win. Mooro is working in tho livery barn of Mr. Booher.

Miss Etta Tod is visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Workman. George Miller is filling prescriptions at Miller's drugstore.

Ephraim Livongood is the smallest man in Franklin township. Isaac Cox is thinking of building a brick residence in the spring.

George Kashner went to Indianapolis Monday with a lot of fine hogs. Servant girls in this part of the country are almost as scarce as hens teeth.

Mrs. Tillio Honniker, of Thorntown, was visiting her parents here this week. Lashey Cox will havo a public sale November 10 and will then move to Darlington.

Frank Honniker, ot Waveland, was here Wednesday. Frank was formerly of this place. L.

Nelson Oonningham, the one leg democrat, was here this week among his many friends.

Ira Booher has a bran new organ for sale on easy terms. Call and see him if you want a bargain.

Several republicans from here went to Frankfort Wednesday to hear one of the big guns speak. •The people here were very much disappointed last week by Mr. not being able to speak.

Mrs. A. II. Bonner, who haB been vising^at Martinsville Springs, returned home last Tuesday evening.

The steam shovel has left here and gone to Candem to work. Several of our boys accompanied them.

Joe Miller has bought the McClelland drug store and now has three. Another man is thinking of starting one soon.

Gerrit Rhorer and Andrew Booher went hunting last Wednesday. They returned about noon with one rabbit.

Carpenters areat work preparing agood substantial room in the engine house to hold the election in in the second precinct.

On the 19th of this month, at night, there will be a play at Iluletts hall called '-The Drift," played by home talent. All are invited.

Our marshal wants to sec that tho young hoodlums don't tear down tho town and then turn tho ground over next Holloween.

Bertha Booher and Grace Berryman gave a Holloween supper at Dr. Berryman's and quite a nico time was enjoyed by those present.

Notwithstanding a great many new housos havo been built here this summer and fall, several more could be rented if we had them. ..

Mrs. Bradley, living west of town, has brought property here of John Ma horney, thinking she could move at once, but she found it was rented till March.

All the lost sheep are coming home'to vote. There are forty-eight democrats and fifty republicans in Wingate, but you bet wo hold them down to tho kniting.

Milered Boxton has moved to this and will occupy tho property that he bought of (5ott and Galey.

The water tank has booh moved from this place to Illinois. Born to tho wife pf Joseph Bush a 12 pound girl.

Some one was meau enough to cut down the pole that the children raised at No. .1,'] school house on Columbus day.

Our new Methodist minister preached his first sermon on last Sunday. Regular monthly meeting at tho Christian church.

November 1st it rained all day and part of the night. Another school started and is taught by Miss Luckott, of St. Joseph, Mo. She has tho graduates and fourth year grades.

Tho Good Templars did not meet on last Tuesday evening on account of the rain, but the main cause was that most of them were out the uicrht before and were sleepy. They turned over platforms and out-buildings but there is no fun.in that. Fastening a string and a nail so that it will tap on a window and wake people up at 2 o'clock in the morning and seo the old gont come out is where the fun is, but it does not always work.

Doctor Dingman found his parrot and had to buy her before he could take her home.

The Clover Leaf R. R. company will have to settle some losses by their engines setting fire to dry grass and stubble along their right of way. Bailed straw, rails, and rail fences and clover fields and timothy meadows must be settled for.

Mrs. Wesley Howard is on the sick list. The boys that fixed the tick-tack on a window of J. S. Bennett, and woke him up expected to have a barrel of fun, but were fooled.

The question is: "Will the lato rains make the wheat come up that has been planted 'or six weeks or not?" It will help a little but we will not have the wheat next year that we had this year. Rain was too slow.

O. D. Thomas has sold his grocery and hardware store and rented the room. He will now turn his attention to dry goods.
