Want the Subsidies Paid.

"The financial affairB of the Indiana Midland road took a new turn yesterday. When the old Anderson, Lebanon & St. Louis was being built Anderson township, in Madison county, voted to aid to the amount of $30,000, and paid $13,000 of it Nobelsville and Washington, in Hamilton county, voted $52,000, and paid 819,500: Clark, Scott end Brown townships, in Montgomery county voted S47,000 and paid 88,000. When the Midland railroad completed the track through these counties the county authorities wore asked for the 188,500 of unpaid subsidies. Some of the townships wanted to pay, and Clark township in Montgomery county, went before the board with 111 of the leading citizens, and the tax was put on the duplicate but lawsuits followed, and the old Midland company has never been able to collect one cent. "This," says an Indiana Midland friend, "has been tho root of all the trouble of the

Midland. Tho old croditors of the Anderson, Lebanon & St. Louis appeared in tho Montgomery Circuit court, and had A. IB. Anderson appointed receiver, and last week his attorney F. P. Mount, of Crawfordsville, filed a suit in each one of the counties to collect three unpaid subsidies for the benefits of the creditors of the Andorson, Lebanon & St. Louis. The Midland claimed that they built tho road and should have tiio subsidies but wore unable to collect. Now the receiver of the A. L. & St. L. will have his inning."—Indianapolis Journal.

Many a thrilling talo has been told by travelers of a race with wolves acroBB the frozen steppes of Russia. Sometimes only the picked bones of the hapless traveler are found to tell the tale. In our own country thousand are. engaged in a life-and-death race against the wolf consumption. The bost weapons with with which to fight the foe, is Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery. This renowned remedy has cured myriads of cases when all other medicines and doctorB had failed. It is the greatest biood-purifier and restorer of strength known to the world. For all forms of scrofulous atfoctions (and consumption is one of them), it is unequaled SB a remedy.

Six Horses Burned.

Milo Tomlinson, living near Linden, is, or was up to last Friday night, the possessor of some of the finest horse flesh in Montgomery county. Last Friday Mr. Tomlinson's barn contained sir head of fine horses, among them being By-Tom and Memory, the great runners that captured several races at the late fair. One of the animals had been troubled somewhat with distemper and Tomlinson decided to fumigate the stalls by burning leather. Consequently on Friday evening he entered his stables with a large shovel full of hot coals and scraps of leather. No sooner had ho entered than one of the horses kicked him squarley in tho Btomach knocking the coals flying in every direction. Tomlinson was rendered insensible by the blow. Juet how long he remained in that condition he is unable to say, but when he came around the flames were all around him and the horses were kicking and stamping in their vain effortB to release themeelveB.

By a superhuman effort Tomlinson managed to crawl out through tho smoke and fire into the fresh air where he fainted once more. BetoreJ assistance arrived the stable was one ueething mass of flames rendering any attempt to rescue the pitiful whining brutes useless and they perished in their stalls. The barn was a large structure, well filled with food and grain, all of which was a total loss. Upon the horses was an insurance of $1,450 in the Indiana Live Stock Co.
