CHOLERA..
That dread epidemic, cholera, which in former years has created such a reign of terror in countries which it has visited, will, it is believed, be again an unwelcome visitor in' this country this fall and next year. In several countries of Europe it is now epidemic and hundreds of deaths are noted from its ravages. In the cities of Hamburg. Germany, and Havre, France, many cases are reported. It would seem to be the genuine Asiatic cholera, and moves over the country with the speed of the wind. The cholera's first visit to this country, coming direct from Europe waB, we believe, in 1833. Its devastations were wide, most cases fatal and terror was inspired in many localities. It again appeared in 1849 and was more prevalent thah on its first visit. In the southern 'States, along rivers, it was unusually fatal in its results. In 1854 and also in 1867- the cholera appeared in many seaports and inland cities, of the United States. It was in a somewhat milder form and cases resulting fatally were not near so numerous as on its previous visits. Cleanliness of person and premises are the most reliable antidotes in the treatment of this disease. :v
THE S0EEEN ORDINANCE. The screen ordinance introduced in the city council some time since, by which it was proposed that all screens in saloons should bo removed from in front of counters after 11 o'clock and on Sunday, has been laid permanently to rest and will not be adopted by the present council at least. The council is all republican, the Mayor is republican, tho police are republicans, and they don't want to antagonize the saloon interest. They have not the moral courage to denounce a wrong, and seek to adopt means to prevent it. It may hurt them at future city elections. Will Dr. Thomas, Rev. Cunningham and others, who appeared before the city council a few weeks ago, and askc
1
for the en
forcement of tho Sunday closing law, have the courage to vote against any of tho present city officials who in May next will offer themselves again ascandidates? We will see. They all belong to the "party of great moral ideas," to quote an expression of their newspapers, but an idea is one thing, and the enforcement of it another.
THERE are many wild expressions made during political campaigns, and none do wo consider more ridiculous than that Illinois can and will be carried by the democracy this year. It is a reliable republican State in campaign years, has been for thirty or more years, and will, we believe, continue to he for sometime. The democratic campaign managers should throw their resources on States less doubtful and where tho chances are more favorable, Iowa, Nebraska, or Michigan, for instance. It is time thrown away, we consider, to seek to secure the electoral vote of Illinois.
THE American Tribune, of Indianapolis, the leading soldiers' family paper of the west, will commence the publication of the disloyal record of the Indiana democrats in its issue of September 8th. 1892.—Journal.
The American Tribune is indorsed by the P. O. S. of A., of this city, and yet when THE REVIEW expressed the belief that the order was becoming somewhat political and partizan it was denounced for making the assertion. This is somewhat peculiar to say the least judged by this extract from the Journal.
THE Iron Hall, an accident and life insurance company of Indianapolis, which has lately been forced to tho wall on account of the irregularities of its officials, seems fo have consisted of supremities. There was a Bupreme justice, the supreme trustees, and many other supremos. One thing certain their actions seeni to have partaken of supreme rascality, and they should have supreme justice done them by imprisonment behind bolts and bars of the penitentiary.
THE regular campaign both State and National will open in Indiana on the part of the democracy Saturday, Sept. 10th. Speeches will bo made in most, if not all the counties of tho state on that day, by democratic speakers and the contest will continue until the election in November. In this county speeches will be made in every township, and a general rally will occur in October.
WEAVER, tho Presidential candidate of tho Peoples' party, says that all States west of the Mississippi will give majorities at the November election for that party. Third party leaders have generally been credited with having just about enough sense to come in out of the wet when it rains and no more, but it is doubtful if their leader has that much, judged by this last opinion of his.
As republicanpoliticians are starting tin plate industries so plentiful just now wo would suggest they organize ono for Crawfordsville to last until after election. It would bo an infant industry and of course, would be expected to expire soon after tho election, yet it might do very well to show the beauties of protection! and great benefits arising from the McKinloj^ariff^il^
IN CasB county, says tho Logansport Pharos, tho names of fifty republicans have been enrolled who voted for Harrison in 1888, but will votos for Cleveland in 1892.
THE editorial convention met and adjourned last week at Maxinkuckee. It is noticed that the sun still shines and water runs just the same, notwithstanding.

The popularity of "The Groat Rock Island Route" as a Colorado line—it having long time since taken first place as the people's favorite between the Lakes and the mountains—has compelled tho management to increase its present splendid service by tho addition of a train that is one night on the road from Chicago to Denver, Colorado Springs or Pueblo.
