Malcomb B. McDonald, son of the late Jos. E. McDonald, announces his intention of moving on his farm, the Swisher place, near West Lebanon, noxt year, building a race track, erecting several line stables and engaging in raising fine stock on a scale equal to that of the big Kentucky stock farms,

The houses being erected west of tie college by a supposed "Chicago syndi eate,v are very cheap atlairs, much after most of the Fiskville houses, and are certainly of no great architectural beauty, or of any particular great advantage to the locality in which they are situated—in fact from the cheap, flimsy nature of them they might as well not be constructed at all.

Company 1 returned from the encampment late Saturday night. The boys report the week in camp a very rough one. Tho discipline was extremely severe and tho troops were compelled to drill six hours daily in the sweltering sun. While there were some forty cases of prostration in camp Co. 1 proved the hardest crowd on the Held and escaped without having a single man succumb.

Aunt Kitty Edwards was badly stung Wednesday by a swarm of bees that she was trying to settle. It is supposed that the swarm began settling on her head and in her ondeavor to dislodge them, they became entangled in her hair and began stinging. She was so badly stung about the face and head that she had to take to her bed. At last report she was resting easy, but was still suffering from tho effects of the poison.—Waynetown Hornet.

JEFFKUSONVILLK, Intl., Aug. 1.— Because Seymour Wright's parents objected to his marriage to Miss Maud McCoy, which was to have taken place Thursday night, he drowned himself in the Ohio river, and the would-be bride is in danger of becoming insane from grief. The arrangements for the wedding had all been completed, the license secured, and the minister and guests were waiting the coming of the young man that the ceremony might be performed. For four long hours they stayed, but the bridegroom did not appear. Friday morning it was learned that Wright's parents had influenced Ijiim not to marry the girl, and rather than be thus thwarted he committed suicide.

Youthful Burglars Arrested.

Ind., Aug. 1.—Mer­

chants and professional men of this city have been missing money from their cash drawers for several months, and all efforts to find where it went proved fruitless until Saturday night, when the existence of a youthful gang of burglars was brought to light. John Martindale. an adopted New York orphan, 12 years old, has done the fine work, and, together with Frank Davenport and Leroy Hathaway, aged 19 and 16 years, was arrested. A preliminary hearing was held this morning and all remanded to the ja:l in default of $500 bail each.

Damage by an Klectrlc Storm. COLUMBUS, Ind., Aug. 1.—Saturday reports of damage done by the electrical and rainstorm that swept over this section Friday night reached here. The residence of Joshua Lowe, south of here, was struck by lightning and three members of the family were stunned by the shock. The residence of Prof. Moberly was almost ruined by a stroke. Three fine horses were killed near Elizabetlitown, where a large barn was badly wrecked. Rain fell in sheets, which prevented any of the buildings burniug. In Johnson county, just north of here, the storm was equally as severe.

Fancy Short Horn Cattle Burned. NKWCABTLE, Ind., Aug. 1.—The extensive barns of Thomas Wilhoit, the famous breeder of thoroughbred short horn cattle, situated on his farm 12 miles northwest of this city, burned Saturday afternoon, together with an immense quantity of feed, farming machinery and many of the choicest of his cattle. Among those burned were the finest short horns in the world, which were being carefully prepared for exhibition at the world'a fair next year. The loss is placed at 525,000. The amount of insurance ia unknown.

Clothing Manufacturer FallsINDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Aug. 1.—-Joseph F. Baker, the largest manufactarer of clothing for the wholesale trade in this city, failed Saturday and turned over everything to Murphy, Hibben & Co., to whom he owed $22,000. This firm was the priucipaJ creditor and took the factory and stock on hand in satisfaction of its debt The total liabilities are $30,000. Two hundred employes, mostly women and girls, aro thrown out of employ ment, as the factory will be permanently closed.

Child Thrown from a Train. INDIAPAI'OT.is, Ind., Aug. 1.—At daylight Saturday the dead body of a Mmonths old infant was found by the tracks of the Cincinnati, Hamilton & Dayton railroad in this city. It is believed that the child was murdered by being thrown from an early morning train, a» no one has inquired of the railroad officers concerning it. As the train was an outgoing one nothing can be learned about it here.

LAFAVKTTK, Ind., Aug. 1.—An election to vote 8130,000 to the L., N., A. A C. railroad in consideration of the removal of their gener.al shops from New Albany to this city was held Saturday. There was but little opposition, the aid being voted by 1,9S2 majority. The company is to expend $200,000 additional to this and employ (500 men.

MITCHKI.L, Ind., Aug. 1.—The com mencement exercises of the Southern Indiana normal college closed on Saturday. All the classes were well represented, many from a distance attending. Superintendent P. R. Wadsworth, of Daviess county, delivered the address to the teachers' class.

MITCHELL. Ind., Aug. l.—Saturday morning the body of Will Jeffries, the night watchman at the tunnel 0 miles east of here, was found on the track near the tunnel crushed and lifeless. It is not known how he met his death.

NOHLESVILLH. Ind., Aug. 1.—Levi Harris -and Thomas Levi quarreled here Saturday and Harris shot Levi in the arm, injuring it so badly that it had to be amputated.
