Let Him Go-
Dr. Steele, of Waveland, a drinker of ardent spirits from away back, but who reformed, as was thought under the Keeloy treatment has been "on it" again, He has been petted and aided often by his friends in hopes that he would ceaBe tho vile habit, and has remained sober for three or four months, but it doeB no good. The best way would be for him to be incarcerated in some prison for the next five years, or throw himself into the river and end all further efforts in the matter. The Waveland Independent has the following additional facts in regard to Dr. Steele. "Lately, he entered into an agreement to go to Australia to introduce the Keeley treatment, at a salary of 15,500, and last week Btarted to Chicago to make the final arrangements. But on the way up he got with a gang of the worst element to be found, and was soon started on a sprle. This is his own story. He says ho has no appetite for drink, but after getting with this kind of company he carried the carousal as far as any of them. His action disgusted those who had been his friends here through all his former scrapes. On Friday he received a notice from personal friends, giving him twenty-four hours to leave the town and stay away, or take the consequences. He left on Saturday and according to the Crawfordsville Journal went to Darlington,, where he occupied the saloon until closed out, and then slept on the curbstone till the north-bound Sunday train arrived, which he boarded. Nothing has been heard of him since. There is not a particle of sympathy felt for Steele here at his home, as most people consider his downfall to be of hits own choice, or rather lack of manhood."
Supposed Suicide.
The lifeless body, cut and mangled in a horrible manner, of John McCain, of New Richmond, was found early on Monday morning, about one and a half miles west of Linden on the track of the "Clover Leaf" railway. It is thought that the deceased placed himself purposely where he was found determined on self destruction. He had been in Linpen all of Sunday and in the evening accompanied a lady to church. Early on Monday before daylight he started to walk to Now Richmond by the railway and thiB was the last seen of him alive. The cause of tho suicide, if suicide it be, remains a mystery, as he appeared to be in his usual pleasant disposition all day Sunday. The remains were taken to his sister's at New Richmond, and buried on Tuesday.
Oan They Sell?
The much talked of sale of the Battle Ground north of Lafayette, says Dr. Clearwaters, is mostly unwarranted. The grounds are now owned by a board of trustees, they having made tho purchase from the Northwest Conference of the M. E. church with the provision that the grounds be used for nothiug other than that for whicn tlie\ were originally designed. There was, however, a question submitted to the trustees asking the amount that would buy the grounds. The proposed purchase was made by a committee who are interested in having the soldiers' home located there.
Drowned.
\V. S. StMley, some years ago a tele graph operator at the Mouon, was drowned at Los Angelos, Cal., a few days since, while bathing near that city He is remembered by many persons here. Ho was married to Miss Lizzie Oliver, daughter of the late Wm. Oliver, of east Jefferson street, but the alliance proved unfortunate and after a few months they separated, although never divorced. Staley's life was insured for the sum of S.'5,000 and although his relatives will aim to secure this sum for themselves, it is probable that tho wife will obtain it.
Jt'atal Sun Stroke.
A voung man known as Ilcnry Butcher, living near Cherry Grove, was sun struck on Saturday afternoon and died a few hours afterward. Ho had been engaged at work in a Held and feeling badly from the intense heat started for home, but fell to the ground and was at once carried to the house. Medical aid was called but of no avail, as he died near the hour of midnight. He was aged twenty years, unmarried. Ho was buried on Monday.
House Burned,
The farm house of Mr. Rosebro about a half mile north-west of tho corporation line, and directly south of Oak Hill cemetery, caught fire from a defective kitchen flue about half past nine o'clock Sunday morning last and was entirely destroyed. Tho house was a story and a half frame buildiDg. A portion of the contents of tho house from tho lower rooms was Baved, tho absence of moBt of the family from home at tho time preventing tho saving of more of tho property. There was an insurance of 81,000 on the houBe and $200 on tho household goods.
Still Hunting.
Tho trustees of Wabash college are still seeking for a President for that institution. An eastern man, a college professor, it now being interviewed on the subject of his acceptance of the place if offered, with some hopes that he will, after investigation, prove satisfactory and accept.
A FOREIGN TRIUMPH.
Sells]Brothel'H Betura Crowned With Victorious Wro»th*. On the sixteenth of October last Sells Brothers' Big Show of the World sailed from San Francisco for Sidney, Australia thus inaugurating the most extraordinary and venturesome tour of its kind on record, and which was destined to "bear the golden fruitB of a proportionate success. The leading journals of America all backed its pluck and enterprise with the strongest editorial assurancos that its proprietors were entitled to universal respect as representatives of the best type of genuine American manhood and their great exhibition to all the popularity and successes such ownership ought to confer. That they never compounded with fraud by claiming that "people like to be humbugged." That they acted upon the wise and just principle of giving their patrons more than their money'sjworth, and always recognized that one man's money was as good as another's by giving the same complete show in every place of exhibition, instead of stuffing the metropolis and then starving the farmer, under the pretense of serving him the same feast. That they treated the public fairly, and by so doing gained the full backingof popular confidence in their promises. Those made to the people of Australia certainsuggested the biggest feast of animate wonders and amazing acts ever spread before an eager throng, and of the tens and hundreds of thousands who patronized the show during its six months'
Australian season there is proof, universal, emphatic and undeniable that not one went away disappointed, or dissatisfied.
It is evident that only merit, and that of the most pronounced kind, could secure good words from a not orerpartial, independent and critical foreign press and when it unanimously conceded, as it did even before the show was able to utilize a single horse in any way, that its surpassing greatness was no vain boast it settled the question of honest supremacy both at home and abroad. The great Sydney dailies remarked that multiplying circuses and stages and entertainments might appear at first sight to be a waste of energy and talent, but there was no denying the impressiveness that it lends to tho show as a whole. That the spectator felt himself bewilderingly amazed by tho variety of the efforts made for his entertainment. That space failed them to noto all the striiting features of a program almost as complicated as a railway time-table. This one thing, however, remained distinctly clear: That in Sells Brothers' amusement arithmetic, ciphers don't count.
No aggregation o" tliem will make a unit neither will any number of commonplace thinsrs and unknown lill-ups make a great show. The Messrs. Sells know this, and their united grand Australian living exhibit, monster menagerie, regal Roman hippodrome, triple circus, elevated Olympian stage, aerial displays, tribe of wild Bedouin warriors, childrens' fairyland frolics, darkest Africa aquarium, spectacular pilgrimage to Mecca, and Arabian Nights' entertainments, include and represent only that which is most wonderful, excellent, exciting and refined. From performing mammoth, or huge disporting amphibia, to daintiest detail, there is nothing inferior or commonplace about this extraordinarily rich and attractive allianceIt possesses every feature, feat, and display, of both home and foreign origin, in keeping with such an entertainment, that can be procured, and many nowhere else to be seen and all will bo exhibited at Crawfordsville on Saturday, Aug 13 just as advertised, and with the honorably won prestige of holding first place in two great empires, thousands of miles apart.

The popularity of "The Great Rock Island Roi&e" as a Colorado line—ithaving long time since taken first place as the poople's favorite between the Lakes and the mountains—has compelled the management to increase its present splendid service by the addition of a train that is one night on the road from Chicago to Denver, Colorado Springs or Pueblo. "I Am So Tired,"
Is a common exclamation at this season. There is a certain bracing effect iu cold air which is lost when the weather grows warmer and when Nature is renewing her youth, her admirers feel dull, sluggish and tired. This condition is owing mainly to the impure condition of the blood, and its failure to supply healthy tissue to the various organs of the body. It is" remarkable how susceptible the system is to tho help to be derived from a good medicine at this season. Possessing just those purifying, building-up qualities which the body craves, Hood's Sarsapa rilla soon overcomes that tired feeling restores the appetite, purifies the blood and. in short, imparts vigorous health to thousands of friends as with one voict declare "It Makes the Week Strong,"
