The following special from Lebanon to the Indianapolis Sentinel sayB "Henry Crawford arrived here today from Indianapolis with an order of the superior court for the possession of the Chicago & South Eastern railway, of which E. T. Lang was appointed receiver by Judge Neal of the Boone circuit court, one week ago yesterday. R. E. Pierce, Joseph Collett and Henry B. Hammond are Mr. Crawfords' bondsmen for $50,000. County Treasurer Smith got out papers as soon as it was learned the road had again passed into Crawford's hands and levied on the two engines in the yards for delinquent taxes amounting to $6,300. The treasurer of Madison county was notified and if he does not take up the balance of the rolling stock at Anderson it will be taken possession of here. The people along the road have lost all confidence in the Crawford regimo, which had allowed the road bed to grow up in weeds, the section men having been laid off for two months. Connecting lines would furnish no cars and shippers were compelled to suspend business. In one week Receiver Lane made Buch a change as to inspire the confidence of shippers and the people generally and tho road was doing Dig business. Young Henry Crawford attempted to escape the officers with a train Friday afternoon, but Treasurer Smith fooled him by blocking the Big Pour crossing. Crawford made great promises of paying $up the employees today and at once pushing the road through to Brazil, but the people have heard that song so often they put little confidence in it."

Death of Maude Galey Gortner.

Last Wednesday morning the sad intelligence reached this city of the death of Mrs. II. II. Gortner at her home in Goshen. The remains were brought to this city on Thursday and the funeral occurred from the home of B. V. Galey yesterday afternoon at four o'clock.

At the time of her death Mrs. Gortner was but 2.'? years of age. On the iMth day of last September II. II. Gortner and Miss Maude Galey were married at the home of the bride's father. B. V. Galey, on east Main street. After ten months cf the most perfect happiness the beautiful bride is a corpse and the groom heartbroken. Mrs. Gortner visited here in June and returning home was taken with a slow fever which terminated in her death. Her life was a beautiful one. A lady whose graces were legion, who by her gentle manners and noble traits had gathered about her a large circle of loving friends. To the bereaved husband and family the sympathy of the whole community goes out.

A Small Blaze.

What might have been a very damaging fire was nipped in the bud by the department Tuesday morning. About one o'clock Mr. Holloway, of the firm of Woodruff & Holloway, photographers in the third story of the Fink-McClelland block on east Main street, discovered smoke issuing from a room used to store rags and boxes in. The alarm was quickly turned in and in five minutes later a stream of water was playing upon the fire and tho flames were soon quenched, not however before the water had soaked through the first and second floors. Woodruff & Ilolloway's loss will bo in the neighborhood of 8500 with no insuranco. Bappert's cigar factory was well soaked while Mike

Callahan had a pool table ruined, all of which wero thoroughly insured. Tho building is owned by Philip Fink and Mrs. Dr. McClolland whose loss will bo about S100, fully insured.

What Xills the Fish?

Thousands of dead fish of all sizes and varieties line tho creek bottoms from the iron bridge to Tountsville and tho stench arising therefrom is unendurable. A great howl is going up from farmers along the creek and the festive fishermen who find their sport destroyed. Two reasons are assigned for this wholesale slaughter, the first of which is that it is the work of dynamiters, while the second and more plausible is to the effect that the stink factory near the bridge is responsible for the pollution of tho water which in time, it is argued, will kill every fish for miles down tho stream. The matter should at once be investigated and somo measures should bo taken to stop the plague.

Narrow Esoape from Lightning. As a 'bus load of passengers were being driven in from the Vandalia'{Btation during Tuesday night's thunder storm the whole outfit, horses, driver, passengers and all were almost paralyzed by a streak of lightning and a heavy crash of thunder. Every man in the 'buB thought the vehicle had been struck and when the hotol was reached they were stiff with fear. An investigation later on showed that the lightning had struck the ground less than forty feet from the 'bus and had torn up the ground for a distance of twenty feot. It was a close call and an experience which none of the occupants will over want to undergo again.

A Spectacular Lie.

An' lintrammelod and gorgeous imagination only canconceivet ho indescribable. psychological excursion into the realms of romance in that marvelous play -'Faust" and "Marguerite''^ to be produced at Music Hall, Aug 20th, but realistic realism and the supernatural will be outdone in the grand presentation of Goethe's spectacular lie. A great play, strong company, wonderful scenery, will without doubt crowd our theatre. Full of extraordinary electrical ollects, livid pictures of life in Paradise and ITades. It will be far superior to any production of this astounding play America has ever known.

Amerioan Harrow Speaks to Farmers. In the REVIEW of the 23rd there ia a s:anderous article headed "Traveling Sharks" which the readers of the REview would Buppose was an editorial but which is, as we are informed the anonymous production of a certain jealouB underhanded implement firm of Caawfordsville who are like the assassin that would sneak upon his victim in the dead hours of night to Btab him. He strikes us under cover of the REVIEW and would leave the impression it was tho advico of its Editor to the farmers, instead a kick from an implement firm sick with jealousy over our unrivaled BUCCOSS, knowing they can not in any respoct compete with us either as acorn cultivator or harrow or seeder, though they would furnish three seperate and distinct pieces of machinery and we use but the one, "The New American."

As to our dealing with the farmers we will say we are not strangers oven in this part of the state where wo have hundreds of customers who will if called upon vouch for the superiority of our machine|and our fairness and honesty in all our business transactions with them.

The American Harrow Co., is composed of

Bome

Agriculturists of tho North and West, among them its president, D. M. Ferry, whose name alone is a guarantee to tho farmers and who could not afford to have his namo at the head of this great manufactoring Co., if the "Now American" was not beyond any possible doubt an established success.

For nearly 10 years this company has done a successful business with about 150 salesmen over many of tho different States in tho union with such an increasing trade from year to year, that it has been impossible for us (even with our immense forco of traveling salesmen) to yet introduce our combined implement in near all the goodjjterritory.

And for this "Soro Head" to state our implement is not a success and that our seeder is condemed by tho Government experimental station is liko manyj other of his statements without reason or truth' but, on the contrary may experimental stations are using our machines with tho best success, as woll as thousands of just as practical farmers.

We do not ask the farmers to take our word for the merits of tho "Now American," nor do wo believe they will be prejudiced against us by this suckor, who puts up such a touching and pitiful appeal for their patronage, who intimates their intellectual weakness and begs so hard for their guardian-ship. All wo ask of the farmers is to see our machine operated and use their own judgement and pass their opinion and we will be satisfied with tho verdict.
