A BRILLIANT EEOOED.

Is That of the Candidate for Vice-Presi-dent. Adlai Ewing Stevenson of Bloomingtoon, 111., tho democratic candidate for vice-president of the United States,

waB

born in Christian county, Kentucky, Oct. 23,1835, and educated in the common schools of Kentucky and at Center college, Danville, Ky. Ho removed with his parents to Bloomington 111., in 1852, and began the study of law at Bloomington in 1857, being admitted to the bar in May, 1858. He located at Metamora, Woodford county, Illinois, and immediately began the practice of law, remaining in that city for ten years. He was appointed to the office of mas-ter-in-chancery by the circuit judge and after holding that position for lour years was elected district attorney, an office which he also held for four years. At the expiration of his term of office as district attornej he 'returned to Bloomington, 111., and formed a law partnership with James J. Ewing in January, 1868, which partnership still exists, the firm of Stevenson & Ewing being one of the leading law firmB of central Illinois and one of the best repute in state and federal courts for over twenty years.

In 1864 Mr. Stevenson canvassed the state of Illinois as a candidate for presidential elector on the democratic ticket. In 1874 he was nominated by the democratic ticket. In 1874 he was nominated by the democratic party for congress in the Bloomington district. The district had 3,000 republican majority, but, after a very exciting canvass, Stevenson defeated his opponent, Gen. McNulta^ for re-election by over twelve hundred majority. He served in congress during the Hayes and Tilden electoral contest and waB one of the earnest advocates of a peaceful settlement of the differences in the presidential controversy. He was defeated for re-election to congress in 1876, the district at that time giving a republican majority of less than two hundred. He at once resumed the practice of law, but was once more renominated for congress in 1878, this time defeating his opponent, Congressman Tipton, and being elected by over two thousand six hundred "majority.

After the expiration of that term of office Gen. Stevenson resumed tfie practice of law and was a delegate to the democratic national convention in 1884, which dominated Grover Cleveland for president. After the latter's election Stevenson was appointed first assistant postmaster-general and held^that office during the entire Cleveland administration. His urbanity made him exceeding popular with all classes of people and he was probably the favorite of the Cleveland administration at Washington during the four years of democratic rule. As assistant postmaster-general, he was outspoken in his belief that it was a democratic duty to remove republican postmasters .wherever possible and appoint efficient democrats in their Btead. The celerity which Gen. Stevenson displayed in removing republican postmasters and appointing democrats made him very popular, particularly through tho South.

Heroes of Tippecanoe.

1' ivu uiousand people assembled at the Tippecanoe Battle Grounds, last Sunday, to decorate the graves of thirtyseven soldiers who fell there on Nov. 7 1811. In regard to tho speakers the Lafayette, Journal says: "Rev. Moses Wood, of Battle Ground, preceded the introduction of the orator of the day, Gen. M. D. Manson, of Crawfordsville, the hero of two wars. His introduction produced much applause. His address was short and to the point." In his talk it was developed that he favors Tippecanoe county as the site for tho soldiers' home. This encouragement evoked great applause.

M. E. Clodfelter, of Crawfordsville, made a few well timed remarks and also complimented our county in the high, est terms, his remarks calling out applause.

Enjoying' Life as I Have not Done Before in Tears.

KIRKLAND, IND., March 7, 1892.

Dr. Matv-0-Wa, Frankfort, Ind Dear Sir:—[ was a great sufferer from dyspepsia, neuralgia, catarrh of throat and debility, and after two months' treatment was completely cured. The cure is permanent in my case as I have taken no treatment since January. I would advise all who are affected as I was to consult with you.

Respectfully, MRS. JENNIE ASHLEY.

FRANKFORT, IND., April 6,1892.

Dr. Man-O-Wa. Sir:—I am truly grateful for the benefit I have derived from the use of your Indian Herb Medicine. I was in a miserable condition had been treated by six different physicians and was pronounced incurable. At last it was decided that 1 had an "ovarion tumor." After I was operated upon it was found that the physicians had made a blunder —as no tumor could be found. The result of the operation only increased my suffering .and left me with a hernia, as the walls of the abdomen failed to heal completely. My suffering was so intolerable that I could only get ease when under the influence of laudanum. My life was miserable, and I was only too anxious to die and get relief.

After four months' treatment I have broken from the opium habit, and am enjoying life as 1 have not done before for ye'arB. Yours truly,

MARY HOPKINS nee JOHNSON.

FRANKFORT, IND., April 23,1892. Dr. Man-O-Wa: Dear Doctor:—My son Albert has been afflicted for over ten years with eczema. He was treated by eight different physicians, each physician treating him fjom six months to two years. He gradually became worse and was one solid mass of scabs and scales his suffering was intolerable. On Dec. 3,1891, I brought him to you, and after three months' use of your Indian Herb Specific, his skin is clean, and b.g is anew boy physically.

Yours truly, SION WEBSTER.

FRANKFORT, IND., April 2,1892.

Dr. Man-O-Wa Sir—My health had been rapidly failing since August 1st, 1891. I was a great sufferer and rapidly nearing my grave. I had been treated by five different physicians, all of whom were eminent in the profession. They had all given me up to die, saying that they could only ease my suffering and could not cure me, as I was in the last stage of consumption.—My thinking that there might be something done to. relieve'me, I called Dr. Man-o-wa in on Feb. 12th, 1892. The doctor found me in bed with a temperature of 108 degrees was having chills, night sweats, intense cough and severe neuralgic pains through my chest, etc. After a careful examination the doctor said ho could help me. I have taken treatment for seven weeks, and have gained 86 pounds in weight and am doing some light work. Respectfully. CHARLEY HILL.

Dr. Man-O-Wa will be at Robbins House on Tuesday, July 12. Treatment including all medicines used from S2 to 85 per month.

The popularity of "The Great Rock Island Route" as a Colorado line—it having long time since taken first place as the people's favorite between the Lakes and the mountains—has compelled the management to increase its present splendid service by tho addition of a train that is one night on the road from Chicago to Denver, Colorado Springs or Pueblo. The route of this exceedingly fast train is by the Rock Island Short Line, and a few of the large cities through which it passes, are Davenport, Des Moines, Council Bluffs, Omaha, Lincoln, Beatrice, Fairbury, Belleville, Philipsburg, Smith Centre, Colby and Goodland. This makes it a most desirable route and particularly interesting to the traveler. Another point: the popularity of our dining-car service is still on the increase, and no money spared to make this service what our patrons always

"I Am So Tired,"

tor-

Is a common exclamation at this season. There is a certain bracing effect in cold air which is lost when the weather grows warmer and when Nature is renewing her youth, her admirers feel dull, sluggish and tired. This condition is owing mainly to the impure con dition of the blood, and its failure to supply healthy tissue to the various organs of the body., It isj remarkable how susceptible the system is to the help to be derived from a good medicine at this season. Possessing just those purifying, building-up qualities which the body craves, Hood's Sarsapa rilla soon overcomes that tired feeling restores the appetite, purifies tho blood and, in short, imparts 'vigorous health to thousands of friends as with one voict declare "It Makes tho Week Strong."
