Little Ina Britts' Harrow Escape An Awful Death. F«ll into a well twenty-seven feet deep.
Such was the frightful experience of little lna, the bright four-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Britts, last Tuesday about noon. The Britts family lives in the house adjoining the property of M. E. Clodfelter on west Wabash avenue. In the Clodfelter yard is a well into which plumbers are putting a force pump. It appears when they quit work on the day above mentioned they simply put a temporary cov•ring of loose boards over the well and to this carelessness is due the mishap. Ina and her little brother were playing in this yard when the little girl walked upon this platform, which gave way with her weight and sho was precipitated into a cavern, a distance of twentyseven feet, seven of which being tilled with water. The terrified boy set up a •ry of distress which quickly brought both families to the scene. Mr. Clodfelter was first to realize the situation and quickly doffing his coat slid down the pipe. On reaching the water the little girl was found struggling feebly and almost gone. Grasping her he held her upon his knee until a rope was lowered and both were hauled to the top. After much work the little girl was revived much to the delight of her agonized parents and her gallant rescuer.
"Nie's Bath.
"Nig" Seering has at last taken that long needed bath. It wasn't exactly voluntary on "Nigs' part as it waB administered with his raiment on. For sometime past "Nig" has made the nights hideous to those people living in and' about the jail. He would sleep during the day and at night remain up. and curBe, scream, sing and hammer and bang things until life became unbearable and

to those in the building. Tuesday night Deputy Sheriff Agnew warnedj him to repeat

hilarousness at his peril, but
"Nig" didn't care for a little thing like that and about nine o'clock the fun began. Mr. Agnew attached the'long rubber hose to the hydrant and going to "Nig's" cell thrust the nozzle through the bare and turned the stream upon him. For nearly an hour the victim cursed, yelled and gasped for breath at the end of which time he became erauBted, and after a profusion of promises the stream was cut off and the neighbors were disturbed no more that night. "Nig's" natural aversion to water ia what prompted Mr. Agnew to adopt that heroic- treatment and the young fellow will be given a liberal dose of it every time he becomes obstreperous.

a proud descendent of the illustrious house of Crouch, the first chapter of whose name was Eliza. Charles loved as only a Bristle Ridger can love and Eliza was given no rest until she named the day whereby they would set sail in a frail craft on the tumultous sea of matrimony. June 29 was the day set and Charles' joy knew no bounds. Tuesday evening Charles came to this city, dressed in his store clothef, after the license. He was happy, very happy, but he had been happy for so long a time he thought he needed astimulousto keep his joy at a white heat and dropped cautiously into a saloon near by and invested in a dime's worth of ready-made joy. The first drink was invigorating, the second transported him and at the third he was "loaded for bear." Along toward midnight the police found' him and he sl^pt off his overload of happiness in a cold, clammy cell at the jail
Ho was released early the following morning and skipped out into the pre cinctsofCoal Creek township. By 11 o'clock he had returned and with him was his heart's idol and a few friends. He immediately secured a license and the party repaired to the court of Justice Cumberland where the bonds that unite.Chdarles A. Brown and Eliza E. Crouch were solemnized. Once agaia we are led to remark that "All's well that ends well."
Ho! For Denver.
The committee on transportation for the Knights Templar big excursion to Denver }s very anxious that all parties who intend goinjJ should write or otherwise notify the committee at once so that arrangements for sleeping berths can be made for them. The train, which will be a special, will leave here on Saturday, August 6, at 2 o'clock p. m., and after taking on thvee sleepers at Danville and two at Champaign no other stops for passengers will be made until Denver is roached. The rate has not yet been determined upon, but is very probable that it will be under $20 and positively not above $30.50. An itenerary of the trip is now being published and will soon be in the hands of the the committee tor distribution.

DB. KANE OHOSEN
To Suoceed Dr. Tattle as President of Wabash College. The trustees of Wabash college held a special meeting at Yandes Hall Monday afternoon and after some discussion decided to tender the position of President of Wabash College to Dr. W. P. Kane, of Bloomington, 111., formerly pastor of the Second Presbyterian church at Lafayette. Dr. Kane is 43 years of age, a thorough scholar and teacher and a gentleman of rare executive ability. If he should accept the proffered position, and it is altogether probable that he will, Wabash will receive a much needed boom and stand right in the front rank of the

Makes the Weak Strong
Th» marked beneSt which people la run down or weakened state oI health derlv* from Hood's Sarsaparilla, conclusively proves the claim that this medicine "makes the weak strong." it does not act like a stimulant, Imparting fictitious strength from which there must follow a reaction of greater weakness thu before, hut In the most natural way Hood's Sarsaparilla overcomes that tired feetlag, creates an appetite, poriles the blood, and, in short, gives great bodily, aerre, mental and digestive strength.
