Dr. Huntsinger, of Frankfort, and Dr. W. B. Chambers are hustling around looking for a suitable building and grounds in which to open their MOW whiskey, opium and tobacco sanitarium. They haro two places under consideration one of which will be choBen at once. This is hard on tho 6aloon keepers.
The managers of the Sutherland Institute for the cure of the whiskey, opium and tobacco habits have purchased the old Alexander Thomson homestead south of the city which will at once be remodeled and converted into a first-class sanitarium. It is tho intention to have the place ready for the reception of patients by June 1st.
Richard Hudson, colored, was acquitted by Judge Harney Saturday of the charge of purloining Willie Ridley's incerchangable pants. Bill Raub landlord of the Temperance Hotel, testified that eleven other colored men had occupied Ridley's room on the night of the theft, on tho strength of which Hudson's bacon was saved.
Mayor-elect Fred Ross, of Terre Haute, who was elected, presumably, to fill out the unexpired term of Allen,, deceased, has filed claim that his term will be two years, instead of one, and his commision has been filled out for that length of time. Tho Legislature willbe'' called upon to declare the intention of the law under which he holds.
Many witnesses have beon summoned to Greencastle in attendance upon the suit brought by Mrs. Lydie J. Fice, an evangelist, against Isaac N. Dicks, a farmer, for defamation of character. The plaintiff conducted a revival at Filmore for weeks, and it was during this time that she complained of tho aspersions upon her character by the defendant. The trial is in progress.

A Special Train for the Convention.—A Rate of $1.10 Tor the Round Trip Secured.
It is almost assured that 500 people will attend the Congressional Convention at Terre Haute on Thursday, May IS), from this county. Tho Vandalia Company will run a npecial train from this city, leaving tho Main street dopot at 7 o'clock a. m., arriving at Terre Haute at 1) a. m.. Returning tho train will leave Terre Haute at a time'to suit the excursionists, but not yet decided upon. The unusual low fare of 81.10 for tho round trip and apportionate rates for intermediate points has been secured. The Crawfordsville band will also accompany the excursionists. Everybody is invited. It will be made a grand gala day for tho Montgomery county democracy. Come along and help boom our candidate. Take a day off from your labors and donate it to the good cause.
