Harry Crawford has succeeded in negotiating enough bonds on the Chicago & Southwestern (Indiana Midland road) to complete the road to Brazil and properly equip it.

The work of moving the old Babtist church building to the lot on the corner of Main and Walnut streets was began this week. The erection of the new $5,000 edifice will begin at once.

Over fifty applicants for teachers licansoB were examined by Supt. Zuck last Saturday. It is said by some of the applicants that the questions were the hardest that have been given in months.

Last Monday the erection of a new depot at Mitchell, on the Monon road, was commenced. It will be more commodious andjpleasing in style of architecture than the one erected in 1853 at that point.

The BigJ Four has established a World's fair station at Jackson park, directly atjthe'gate leading into the exposition grounds. The Big Four has the credit of being the first railroad to officially announce a World's fair station and show it in its time cards.

Uncle Joe Deer started out to HIufF Mills Wednesday with a wagon load of goods for the store. Possiblv the warm sunshine made him drowsy, anyway his team walked off the high embankment near 'Squire Rice'B fish ponds, and the wagon turned bottom side up, spilling lumber, hardware, groceries, barrels of coal oil and other articles promiscuously Fortunately Uncle Joe jumped out in time tojescapo injury, and the horses did not run.—Waveland Independent.

Now cotnes the Warren Republican, giving details of an account of a serenade tendered Mr.^McCabe by the Williamsport band and others, on tho evening of the 23d inst., at his country residence. Says The Republican:—

Mc. was in his happiest mood. Congratulations were profusely tendered and well wishes given without stint. Neighbors of the vicinity were attracted to the informal gathering and assisted in making the occasion one of much pleasure and satisfaction to all. This is tho busiest time among the farming community, the plowing and planting being under way in all directions and trade may be expected to bedull for some weeks.

Might Have Been Worse.

Last Saturday while Deputy Sheriff Grant Agnow and Col. Tribby wore driving near tho Big Four depot their horse became frightened at a train and rearing fell backward into the buckboard. Fortunately both occupants escaped uninjured, while the vehicle was sadly demolished and the horse slightly bruised.

Rev. Sam Small, the noted evangelist, will be this city on Sunday, May 22, at which time he will deliver three addresses: in the morning at the Methodist church, in the afternoon at the Y. M. C. A. armory and in the evening at Music Hall.
