Erookshire's Strength.
The Rockville Tribune states the case in a nutshell when it says that Congressman Brookshiro's candidacy was worth more than a thousand votes to the democracy at tho last election, but we take issue with the Tribune when it says that a determined politician like John E. Lamb can thwart the will of the people and prevent his renomination. Mr. Brookshire is the choice of a large majority of the democrats of this district and no scheming politician can prevent his renomination, simply to gain his selfish end.—Covington Friend.

BBOOKSHIRE'S 8PEE0H.
A Bit of Eloqent Logic That Took the House by Storm. Representative Brookshire made a speech in the house Friday afternoon on tho tariff and reciprocity questions that will take rank among the finest efforts made at this session of congross. He spoke for forty minutes and received flattering attention from the democratic side of tho houso. He discussed the six reciprocity treaties. The troaty with Germany, Spain, (Cuba aud Porto Rico), with England for Trinidad, the United States of Brazil and tho Argentine Republic. He made the statement that Groat Britain and Ireland and Western Europe furnishes substantially the only market for all our surplus of agricultural products. He then took up tho treaty statement for 1891 and and showed to what couutries of tho world our agricultural produce goes. lie went on to show tho density of the population in tho old world by the various nationalities and demonstrated that Mr. Blaine's so-called reciprocity scheme is a scheme is a snaro and delusion for the purpose of perpetuating our present protective tariff system. Ho entered very fully into our commercial relations with Canada.
Cox (Tenn.), Breckinridge (Ark.), Culbertson and Bailey, (Tex.), and many others say that it was one of the most exhaustive and at the same time one of tho ablest discussions of tho subject they havo heard for a good while, and that it will make a splendid campaign document for the tariff reformers.— Washington Special.
Knocked Out In the Third.
There was a nice little three round finish fight at the i'air grounds Saturday night, which was participated in and enjoyed by the colored elite of the city. The principals were Elvoy Dickerson and Lincoln Koene, worthy sons of Ham, and both eager for pugilistic fame. Dickerson was Beconded by Archie Young, an all-round sport. Line Hardun looked after Keene's interests, while John Barnes acted in the capacity of referee. For two rounds Keene had things almost his own way and was played by the snorts for a sure winner, but in the third, he made the mistake of his life. He was exceedingly anxious to finish his man and was a little over confident. He walked boldly up to his antagonist and tapped him gently on the brow. This made Dickerson mad, and swinging a heavy right arm landed on Keene's neck, just below the ear. Keene dropped like a beef and his seconds rushed in and pioked him up. He remained unconscious for nearly a half hour. Some were scared to death, thinkiner he had crossed over Jordan sure enough. But he came around all right and everybody was happy The fi^ht and purse, amounting to four or five dollars, was'given to Dickerson.

Nearly every pattern of 5/A fjorse Blanket is imitated in color and style.
