OTJTH AMEBIC AN
AND
The Most Astonishing Medical Discovery of the Last One Hundred Years.
It is Pleasant to the Taste as the Sweetest Nectar. It is Safe and Harmless as the Purest Milk. This wonderful Nervine Tonic has only recently been introduced i:it,o tlsi8 country by the proprietors and manufacturers of the Great South American Nervine Tonic, and yet its great value as a curative agent has Jong been known by a few of the most learned physicians, who have not brought its merits and value to the knowledge of the general public
This medicine has completely solved the problem of the cure of indigestion, dyspepsia, and diseases of the general nervous system. It is also of the greatest value in the cure of all forms of failing health from whatever cause. It performs this by the great nervine tonic qualities which it possesses, and by its great curative powers upon the digestive organs, the stomach, the liver and the bowels. No remedy compares with this wonderfully valuable Nervine Tonic as a builder and strengthener of the life forces of the human body, and as a great renewer of a broken-down constitution. It is also of more real permanent value in the treatment and cure of diseases of the lungs than any consumption remedy ever used on this continent. It is a marvelous cure for nervousness of females of all ages. Ladies who are approaching the critical period known as change in life, should not fail to use this great Nervine Tonic, almost constantly, for the-,space of two or three years. It will carry them safely over the danger. This great strengthener and curative is of inestimable value to the aged. and infirm, because its great energizing properties will give them anew hold on life. It will add ten or fifteen years to the lives of many of those who will use a half dozen bottles of the remedy each year.
IT IS A GREAT REMEDY FOR THE CURE OF
Broken Constitution, Debility Of Old Age, Indigestion and Dyspepsia, Heartburn and Sour Stomach, Weight and Tenderness in Stomae!Loss of Appetite, Frightful Dreams, Dizziness and Ringing in the Ears. Weakness of Extremities and Fainting, Impure and Impoverished Blood, Boils and Carbuncles, Scrofula, Scrofulous Swellings and Ulcers, Consumption of the Lungs, Catarrh of the Lungs, Bronchitis and Chronic Cough, Liver Complaint, Chronic Diarrhoea,
Delicate and Scrofulous Children,
Summer Complaint of Infants.
All these and many other complaints cured by this wonderful Nervine Tonic,MEKVOITS OiSEASES. As a cure for every class of Nervous Diseases, no remedy has been able to compare with the Nervine Tonic, which is very pleasant and harmless in all its effects upon the youngest child or the oldest and most delicate individual. Nine-tenths of all the n:linent:s to which the lmnnu family is heir are dependent on nervous exhaustion' and impaired digestion. When there is an insufficient supply of nerve food in the blood, a general state of debility of the brain, spinal ma/To-.v, and nerves is the result. Starved nerves, like starved muscles, become strong when 1 !tc right kind of food is supplied and a thousand weaknesses and ailments disappear as the nerves recover. As the nervous system must supply sit the power by which the vital forces of the body are carried on. it is :h first to suffer for want of perfect nutrition. Ordinary food does not cow tain a sufficient quantity of the kind of nutriment necessary to repair the wear our present mode of living and labor imposes upon the nerves-.. .For tins reason it becomes necessary that a nerve food be supplied. This South American Nervine has been found by analysis to contain the essential elements our. of which nerve tissue is formed. This accounts for its universal aiJav'.ahility to the cure of ."ll l'onns of nervous derangement.

There is a great amount of talk about a painter's union being formed in this city. It is a mistake the paper hangers tried to organize but failed the painters are not in it at all. A PAINTER.
BAKING POWDER Jn the New York Legislature. The following, taken from "The Oil, Paint and Drug Reporter," refers to a new bill just introduced in the legislature of New York State:: "The latest development in the baking powder war, is the introduction of a bill in thd Legislature of this State requiring all packages of baking powder which contain ammonia, to be branded with a statement of that fact in large type on the label.
Now while the ammonia contention is on, why cannot the law give the public the benefit of the doubt? Wholly unprejudiced people are certainly not willing to be dosed with the substance acknowledged as a poison, simply because scientists, some of whom are not even physiologists, disagree as to its potency."
A similar bill was introduced last April but it is shrewdly surmised that the influence of interested parties prevented its passage. The provisions of the present bill are so juBt that it probably will soon become a law.
ThiB will be welcome news to the manufacturers of pure Cream of Tartar baking powders, the most prominent of whom is the Price Baking Powder Co., of Chicago and St. JUouis, makers of Dr. Price's Cream Baking Powder, who have always made a strictly pure Cream qf Tartar powder, notwithstanding the temptations of adulteration suggested by the enormous profits realized by a large New York concern which uses ammonia, and advertises its powder as Btrictly pure, by means of garbled official reports and certificates signed by its own employees, dubbed professor, doctor or government chemiBt, as fancy may dictate.
A bill compelling alum powders to be conspicuously labeled as such, already exists in Minnesota and it iB to be hoped in the interest of the consumer that similar laws will soon be enacted in other states, for ammonia as well as alum.
The following powders known to contain either ammonia or alum or both will be affected by the proposed legislation.
Royal, Pearl, Calumet, Chicago Yeast, Forest City, One Spoon(Taylor's), Bon Bon, Kenton, Echo, Snow Puff, Unrivalled, Yarcall'e One Spoon, Shephard's Economical, Crown, Climax, Hercules, Monarch, New Era, Snow Ball.

SHE HAD POISONED .HUE PERSONS.

LTXOHKBS HANG A GIRL.
BAYTILLE, La., March 14.—The lifeless form of a colored girl was found dangling from a tree on the road leading to this place Saturday morning. It was identified as that of a 15-year-old servant of W. R. Ilelmer, who resides on the Greenwell place. 20 miles from here.
A Colored Girl's Revenge.
She became offended at the action of a colored man also employed in the house, and in seeking some mode of revenge she decided to put rat poison into his coffee. She put the poison into the coffee intended for the family. About nine persons drank the concoction, and all came very nigh unto death. The girl acknowledged that she intended to kill the man and she did not care particularly who else suffered.
A Victim of Exaggeration.
The neighbors who had been called in to attend the sick people and who had discovered the guilt of the young colored girl locked her up over night in a storeroom, which was guarded by strong locks, and Saturday afternoon two of them started with her to Rayville, the county seat, intending to place her in jail hero.
In the meantime exaggerated reports of the attempt at poisoning had spread through the country around and greatly excited the residents, among whom the Helmers were deservedly popular. One report had it that there was an organized plot among the negroes, who are numerous in Richland parish, to kill the whites, and that the poisoning on the Helmer plantation was the first attempt to carry it out. Another story connected the girl with a gang of voodoo fakirs who lately have been stirring up the blacks and predicting that a deadly pestilence was soon to strike the white population unless it divided its property among the negroes.
These stories, circulated by word of mouth Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, increased in the telling until finally they assumed startling proportions, and it was said among some of the more ignorant of the whites that there had been a general uprising of the negroes and they must band themselves together to oppose it.
Taken from Her Uuards.
It was a little after noon Saturday when the two guards of the girl Ella, one of whom was but a boy of 12 years, started on their 20-milc ride, which was to end at the Rayville jaiL All three were on horseback, the prisoner on a small pony between her two captors, and was in no ways bound. In fact that seemed and was totally unnecessary, so indifferent did she appear to her crime and careless of its results. The little party had gone about half the distance when out of a clump of cottonwood trees by the wayside rode a band of masked men, some twenty in all.
Her two guards made no opposition, neither did the girl herself offer any defense or remonstrance. Without saying a word the men led the p°ny to the side of the road where a huge cottonwood tree stretched out a stout branch. One of the mob threw a rope over the limb and fastened the end to a fence rail, while another put the noose which had been made in the other end around the young girl's neck.
Hanged to a Tree.
Then a sounding blow was given the ponv upon which she sat. The frightened animal sprung forward, and the body of the would-be poisoner was left dangling in the air. With her hands, which were not bound, she attempted to grasp the rope, but was unable. For a moment or so her legs were stretched in and out convulsively, as if attempting to find a supporting place, liut it was all useless, and in a few minutes she was dead.
Then the mob of masked men rode away in one direction, her former guards in the other, and the body was left dangling to be viewed by the planters on their way to church or town Sunday morning. The people whom the dead girl poisoned will re-
