Miss Julia Casey eniertained about 30 of her young friends at the home of M. J. Callahan, on west Wabash avonue, last Wednesday night. Delicious refreshments were serred and the evening delightfully spent.

The People's Natural Gas Company of this city Btruck another magnificent gas well at Sheridan last Wednesday. The well is considered one of the best ever Btruck in the state and is tho seventh now owned by the company.

A man prominent in Haddock lodge and a church member of no small degree was seen in a beastly state of intoxication on aside street, last Wednesday night. A repetition of the offense, and tho REVIEW will takepleasure in exposing him.

John Freeman, a well known citizen of Wesley, met with a very painful accident last Thursday afternoon. While he was engaged in splitting wood, a chip flew up and hit him squarely in the eye, the sharp edge cutting entirely through the ball. The sight will be entirely destroyed, and the pain accompanying the accident is excruciating.

N. P. H. Proctor accidently overturned a lamp in his office Thursday night, which came near consuming himself, to say nothing of the building. Will Humphries chanced to be passing through the hall and seeing the flames in tho room, rushed- in and pulled Mr. Proctor therefrom. With the aid of a couple of assistants and a few buckets of water, the flames were extinguished without the aid of the department. •An attempt was made lo burglarize the home of Jacoo Steele on south Walnut street last Thursday night. The fellow was discovered in the act of climbing into the window by John Harrison who happened to pass at tho time. Harrison drew his revolver and began firing in the direction of the burglar who in turn hustled in a manner that gave evidence of great fright. In the darkness Harrison could not recognize the fellow.

Numerous inquiries from parties in dilfcrent parts of the U. S.. hare been l'ecoived relative to the Darlington mastodon tusk, with the object in view of purchasing. Thursday morning Marshal Payne, of Colfax, arrived in the city to secure the assistance of the local police in capturing a couple of fellows who had robbed a saloon and barber shop in that place the night previous. Payne spent the day here in trying to locate his men without, success and returning home in the evening, leaving the matter in the hands of Marshal Ensminger and his force. Late in tho evening, officers (irimes and Connors got on the trail of a young colored follow who was attempting to dispose of some razors. They linally traced him to the Big Four depot and arrested him as ne was in the act of boarding the midnight train for Indianapolis. He was neatly dressed and had on his person many of the stolen articles. He confessed to the crime but refusod to give his name or that of his pal who is still at large. .! le was taken to Frankfort and lodged in jail yesterday morning.

Samuel B. West and wife have gone to Mankato, Kan., to reside. Wm. Herod, of Kingman, Kan., visited friends in the county this weok.

Quite a number from here will attend the Mardi Gras festival at New Orleans. Mrs. Ira Snyder is dangerously ill with pneumonia at her home northwest of tho city.

Palmer Graham is traveling for a syrup house with headquarters at Evansville.

Supt. Zuck visited the schools of Coal Creek and Ripley townships this week.

Thomas Floror and wife, of Lafayette, were guests of R. B. Snyder and wife last Sunday.

D. W. Yeagiey and wife attended the funeral of Mrs. Thomas Stillwagon at Ladoga last Monday.

Last Wednesday morning Judge Harnoy granted a divorce to Mary Jane Raridan from her husband, Frank Raridan.

Brazil Tracy, one of the oldest and and best citizens in Montgomery county, is reported seriously ill at his homo near Waynetown.

The Odd Fellows this week purchased the Rachael Galey business block on Green street for SI,000. They already owned the third story.

George McGrigg and Miss Jennie Coombs were quietly married at the home of Eli Coombs last Monday night, Rev. J. C. Barnhill officiating.

Invitations are out announcing the marriage of Miss Kate Elston to Fred erick Van Daren Chrislett, of Indianapolis, to occur in this city on Wednesday Feb. 10.

Grandmother Suitors died at the home of her son Nathaniel, near Waynetown last Tuesday morning at tho age of 96 years. Mrs. Suitors was one of tho oldest resident of the county.

Mrs. Alva B. Delaslimit, through her attorneys, White, Humphries & Reeves, hag filed her application for a divorce from Mr. Delashmit. whom she denominates an "ornery cuss."' Bill deserted his wife last September taking with him all the articles of value in tho household and Alva now prays for an inning..

The real estate in the Rachael Galey estate has been selling quite rapidly this week at the office of Johnston & John, ston. The lots all brought good priceranging from $1,500 to $400each. There promises to be a big boom in city real estate this spring and many new homes will be erected.

Frank Raridim went before Mayor Carr Monday and tried to secure the arrest of John Harrison because the latter had threatened to chastise Frank if he should make an effort, to sec his wife. Mrs. Iiaridan has filed application for divorce and pending its granting appears to be under the protecting wing of Harrison. Tho Mayor refused to grant Raridan's request.

The Brazil cornet band has a large size kick coming from Crawfordsville, and are almost inclined to vote that city "short reared." There is still duo the band $23 of tho premium money the boys won there last summer in the band contest, the Brazilians carrying off second prize. Alljeflorts to collect this balance has thus fnr proven unavailing. Whack up,'"gentlemen, wo won it fair and square. Brazil Times.
