Mrs. J. M. Waugh read a paper on "The Typical Farmer" before the farmers' institute at Vineennes last week.

There are already fourteen candidates in the field for nomination as sheriff on the Democratic ticket of Shelby county.

Quite a number of the Odd Fellows from this city attended the funeral of Mr. Becker at Darlington last Sunday.

It is rumored in railroad circles that the Big Four will turn ever a new leaf January 1, and take off the ticket collectors.

Tho Darlington Echo celebrated the second anniversary of its birth last week by issuing a very clover boom edition for tho town.

David Cantrell, a citizen of Frankfort who departed under a cloud some time ago, was found dead in bed at a hotel of Xeeleyville, Mo.

Entries for the poultry show, whicli begins in this city on Dec, 1.1, arc coming in rapidly and the exhibition gn es promise of being a huge success.

W. 1). Jones has sold his hotel, the (Jrand, at Vineennes, and will return here and give all his attention toward the success of the Robbins House.

Dr. Walter's practice is steadily increasing here and those who were at first skeptical are now going to him for relief. He certainly has performed some wonderful cures in various visits to our city. Consult him yn his ne ct visit.

Jesse and Elsworth Jacobs, brothers, became engaged in a drunken quarrel at their home in Clinton county last Saturday when the former struck the latter with a WHgon neck-yoke, crushing his skull, from the effects of which lie died Sunday morning. The murderer was arrested and lodged in jail.

Says flie Frankfort Cresent: Never before has there been so much trouble in the country schools, from sickness. Since the beginning in September more than a [iiarterof ahundred schools in this county have been forced to suspend work from one to six weeks on account of sickness in some form. I'.ut this county seems to bo no exception to the rule, as from everywhere come the word of the same character.

It is said a gentleman in the western part of the county has gotten himself into serious difficulty through advertising in certain papers a remedy for the prevention of conception. The advertisement read that on receipt of five dollars a recipe for the same would lie sent. A detective answered one of tho advertisements and the man fell readily into the trap. Some knowing ones say the guilty party has made several hundreds of dollars in his illegitimate traffic, but it will cost him twice that amount and possibly a term in the penitentiary to get. out of the trouble.

The sensational tiro that has been smoldering here for a long time, burst into a lurid flame last night, ike Larriek and wife effected a final separation last night, baring the divorcement, which will doubtless soon be furthcoming.

Mrs. Larrick paeked her personal effects bought^a ticket for the home of her parents,^making the statement before leaving that she and Ike could never live together again. The difficulty has been of much talk and comment and public opinion is very much divided. Which is to blame we are not advised, perhaps both. Time, or a contested divorce suit, only will bring out the facts, lioth people are'jn good standing and to all appoarances had all that life could desire, except the affection for each other that makes home happy. It is a matter of regret that such separations of this kind occur, but separations are much more preferable than a cat and dog life to-gether.--Darlington Hclio.

Mrs. Jennie Abbott har, been granted a divorce from Leroy J. Abbott and given her maiden name, Vanslyke.

A fight took place early on Monday morning near Rountree's Store between an uncle and a nephew in which the former came out second best.

Mrs. Laura Shelly, through her attorney, Judge Britton, has filed her application for a legal seperation from LlShelpy, and pleads desertion as her cause.

Rabbits in vast quantities are brought to town almost every day. three hundred being brought in one day last week by two men. The prices are Go and Tficts. per dozen.

Liberty Christian Church surprised their pastor F. P. Trotter, Thanksgiving evening with a donation. It ammounted in all to $20.00. John Jackson hauled the goods to Darlington, the pastor's home.

Rev. J. W. Scott came near meeting with a fatal accident at New Market Sunday night. He, in company with a gentleman of that town, were going to church after it had become quite dark and as Mr. Scott was passing a lumber pile ho was struck just above the eye by a board. It cut quite a gash and at first was thought to be a serious wound. A physician attended to the wound and he is now all right.—Waynotown Hornet.

day contained the following: Joseph Hudson, of Brownsburg. entered Professor Wisehart's residence on burglary intent, but was seized and held by the Professor. He was sentenced to six years imprisonment.

Hudson, for a long time, was a resident of Alamo, where he was engaged at the carpenter's trade. While there he was considered an exemplary young man, and the above news will be quite a surprise to his friends and aciiuaintances down there.
