The. criminals are now known to lie !r. Mc-
Adam and Dr. llu.yes, physicians of hitherto good repute. So frequent were the depredations committed by the Uiieves that it was found necessary to employ detectives, who jaine to this place under various disguises and gradually obtained tin- information that led to the arre.V.s of Friday night.
A Urleotive'* niS-.eovery.
When the otlicers came here to investigate what was supposed to be the work of petty thieves the. doctors were not suspeer-d. After the fashion of detectives, Will Twining, who was detailed on the ease and whose acquaintance here enabled him to enter into the movements of night prowlers, soon became associated with the two doctors. He was not long in ascertaining that, these men were responsible for the robberies that had caused so much annoyance to the local oUlcers.
Plans for Uobbing the Hank. The plan to crack the safe of the bank had been discussed by the doctors and the liveryman for some time. Nerve, tools and a dark night were all that was necessary. The little village is quiet as the grave, after LO o'clock, and the location of the bank and the \ault inside is such that even bundling eracksinen could do the job and escaped detection by a few hours of 'termined work. 1 he deposits were much larger than usual. So 00 having been receive I to nay off the employes of the Wilmington-
Gardner Coal Company Friday. Usually the sum carried in the vaults is not suflieient to excite the cupidity of a professional bank thief. Darkness came down on the little town with the storm, and everybody went home early. Then McAdams and Twininp started on their mission. Otlicers had previously beL*n pus.t.ed in the bank.
Shot l)r. Mc.\d uns.
Access to the lia"k was easily obtained. ISv the aid of a lantern, whose rays were hidden from the street by ati arrangement of otViee furniture, th tools were produced and the work ol entering the vault actually begun. Then Detective Twining threw of his disguise. Drawing a revolver he ordered his companions to surrender. iSIc-
Adains.wit.li an oath, attempted to strike the ollicer with a jimmy which he held. The otlieer retreated outside the railing to avoid a hand to hand struggle, and being pursued by McAdams drew his weapon and iired, just asthe other officers ca«ic to his aid. AleAdams' life was saved by the wire netting, which scattered the shot, thoughUiis left arm was so badly injured that amputation may be necessary. Another ollicer was sent after Uoycs, who was a suspect, and lie was placed under arrest', lioth were taken to Morris Saturday morning, when they are lodged in jail. Neither will discuss the matter, having been so advised by at torneys.

At the preliminary trial day McAdajns was 54,000 bail to await grand jury. Boves tlier investigation.
