Flexible Sandstone.

Flexible sandstone is one of the en riosities found in North Carolina. Th« quarries ara in the mountains of the southwestern corner of the State, and the stone is taken out more as a curiosity than for any other purpose though it is sometimes employed in building. When cut in a thin piece say the *ize and shape of a common whetstone, you can bend it into a con siderable arc without itf )p*f4Fing and it will resume its forn®Hte»ightness on the pressure, being removed. Of course, if you bend it too far, it will break.

Dynamic Power of Coal* A curious and interesting" calculation has be made by Prof. Sogers of Washington, D. C., on the dynamic power of coal. According to the professor a single pound of good f-teftna coal has within it dynamic povrtsr eqtilvalent to the work of one man for one day. Three tons of the same coal represent a man's labor for a period of twenty years, and one square mile of a seam of coal, having a depth of four feet only, represents as much as 1,000 000 men can perform in twenty years.
