CLEVELAND AND BLAINE. In one respect both Cleveland and Blaine are alike. Both in brains anil foresight are ahead of any half dozen men in their party and another similarity can be noticed both have strong political enemies within their own ranks who would go to any length to defeat them. What we have always admired in Cleveland is that he has the courage to speak and act according to his own convictions, regardless of party policy or political strategy. His position on the free coinage question shows this, and although the majority of his party are opposed to him in this matter we believe he is correct. In tho vetoing of worthless and fraudulent claims for pensions Cleveland showed the stutf of which he is composed. He did not propose, whether it was popular or not, that so far as he was concerned the government should bestow pensions on those not entitled to them. That was the true position to take. Do you hear of Harrison doing any such thing? No indeed. It would injure his chance for re-nomination in 189"J. Ho would rather be a time server than to be right. lie has not the courage of his convictions in this matter. Blaine saw and now set's what a fraud ami an injusthe McKinley taritf bill is, and indicated this in his remarks heretofore. He is a positive man and does not suit many of his party. The similarity between
Cleveland and Blaine, we believe, can be further shown that neither will President of this country. The leaders of their parties or many of them at least will prevent, them.
THL TjIED PARTY iN OHIO.. In the present State campaign in Ohio the third or "Peoples Party" expect to take a very prominent part. Their main object or a principal part of it this year to defeat .John Sherman for senator. They despise him and his financial methods, and will lay him out if possible next winter in the legislature when the election for Senator conies oil". Barnes the chairman for the Peoples Central Committee of Ohio says his party will cast over 100,000 votes, and thinks it will elect members of the legislature. If it does it will control the election of Senator quite likely by the Hi voting for the election of tiny nomination either of the other two parties may make, and in this case if Sherman is nominated by the republicans lie will assurdly be defeated. About the 1st of October the State will be Hooded with Peoples' party speakers, and they will include, not only all the prominent men of the party, but the leaders ot lhe Fanners Alliance, both in the North and South. The following have notified Chairman Barnes that lie

EAELY ORGANIZATION. The democracy here as elsewhere through the Slide could do no wiser tiling than begin now an organization ot the part\. It is organization thorough and complete, that counts in the campaign and is so effective at the final wind itp at lhe election in Novembor. The republicans of the city have already taken lie preliminary steps to,vard early organization, as they realize the value ol' if. Let us not be behind or dilatory in tin- matter. At any state election where we are beaten the first apology for defeat is about in these words: -TUu republicans were better organized than we." Don't let that be said after the November election of I8!I-_\ but let our political enemies lie compelled to use the words not us. Let clubs Informed. ofiicers elected, meetings held at least twice each month, political matters discussed and suitable literature circulated. The etl'ei-t of this will be seen and felt at the election next year. The republicans know the value of early organization. If has won for them many political victories, and so will it for us. Last year the democracy was well organized and defeated the republicans at every point. We can do it again iT we will, but we must be alert, active, vigilant and tin.- sooner the steps are taken the better, as Indiana as of yore is to be the political battle ground.
IIKN it comes to catching thieves utir city police force amounts to but very little. Last week over a dozen houses in different portions of town were robbed on three or four nights of the fair, yet not an arrest for burglarv was recorded.
LOSING INTEREST.
There seems to be a general impression that county fairB everywhere are losing interest to a great extent with the people and no longer attract tho crowds of former years. The old and worn out inducements issued just a few weeks before the fairs in illustrated posters and pamphlets do not have the effect as formerly. Tho public anticipate nothing new and in consequence are caring little about them. In fact there is nothing new to be seen or heard. It iB all a repetition of former exhibitions. If any man can originate something new, novel and attractive for these annual county exhibitions his time for action is here. He is wanted badly. The exhibition given by the managers of the last county fair proves this. Wednesday and Thursday in which the"weather was superb, and in which the attraction were fully up to those of similar days, at former exhibitions did not draw out as many people as were expected. The people wanted something now and numbois of them will wait for Baruum.
THF, "call" which some ministers announce to their charges whenever they intend removing sounds somewhat hypocritical, especially as it is always made through the inducement of an increased salary. This is probably right for ministers to get all tho money they can for their services, but the sermon often preached from the expression "Money is the root of all evil" sounds hollow and like mockery when coming from those who are so often looking out for a "call." If it is the "root" it is remarkable how so many of the sacred calling have such a "hankering" for it. We believe, generally speaking, that ministers are better paid for services now than the general run of mechanics, and none are so anxious to have an increase of salary as they, and they are ready at any time to throw up present location if there is an increase in the, '-call" elsewheie.
OHIO CAMPAIGN.
The Ohio republicans in the present State campaign seem determined to avert the real issue, the tariff, and discuss the free coinage question, while the democrats consider rightly that it is the tariff quest ion alone that is now before the people. The truth is the republicans are to cowardly too discuss it. Political strategy tells them to let th^ taritf question alone, that they will be defeated on that issue. The democrats should press the question everywhere in that state, and the author of the infamous law will surely be defeated as candidate for (iovernor at the election in November next. The voters with a thorough tin derstanding of the matter will defeat it. A campaign of education and explanation is fatal to Ohio republicans this
THE TWO PER CENT. FEATURE. A convention of the anti-sub-treasurv alliance was held in St. Louis this week. This organization is in direct opposition to that principle of the alliance which desires the government to loan money at l! per cent, to any one with'either personal property or real estate as security. This feature of the alliance has toalinost everybody but its own members looked impracticable and ridiculous, and is the creation of the brain of E\ iovernor Stanford, of California, an immensely wealthy citizen who has made most of his fortune through the southern Pacific railroad in which the government has been cheated right and left. The sng gi-stion of the government loaning mon ey a! "J per cent, was based on fanaticism mixed..with decided rascalitv.
Li I.I R. !ov. EIW.M !•'. .lovi has written a letter to Mr. Cleveland which pretends to warn him against factions and intrigue within the ranks of New Vork Democracy. Mr. Cleveland is hardly stupid enough not to see chat Mr. .Tones wants to be helped out of trouble himself. The astute Lieut.. iovernor appears to be well hedged. ife hreat ens to run as an independent candidate if the Democrats do not nominate him.
Hi i'oi.-rs in the daily papers of last week had it that lien. Lew Wallace of this city would probably be appointed Secretary of War in the Harrison Cabinet to sttcced the present incumbent. As there is no war now in this country and not likely to be soon the position is easily filled and requires no great amount of talent, but the Ccncral probably finds more pleasure in the Held of literature and will remain in is.-,
IT is to be hoped at the completion of the natural gas plant in this city in December that if the directors contemplate a grand banquet for rejoicing and good cheer they will not ildopl the electric light plan of asking invited guests to pay while they eat. If the gas company should be short in cash they should make a temporary loan, and make it up off their customers afterward--.
A. On. JKNCK'S. of Indianapolis, ta minister, not a physician, by the way) says the second coming of Christ will be rwithin the next ten years. There is 'probably no better place for him to come than that city to begin mission

EX-SENATOR STF.PHKN DOKSEY, of Now Mexico, about tho shrewdest and most unscrupulous wire puller of the republican party iB strongly in favor of Blaine as the nominee in 1892. Speaking of Harrison ho says: "There does not seem to be much enthusiasm for him. It you cut him in two not a drop of blood would come front hitu. He is too cold."
THK democrats need fear nothing, from a full and froe discussion of the new tax law in tho campaign next year. A few rich corporations are the only ones that raise any howl over it. It is just and exact just as it should be and cannot injure tho party that sustains it to any great extent.
THF.KK is a beer war on at Indianapolis between the syndicate brewries and new local brewries, and beer has been selling at the rate of two glases for five cents. In consequence tho inhabitants to a considerable extent have abandoned the use of water for tho present.
The Darlington Eaho has been enlarged to asix-columnquarto newspaper. Considering the limited field which the Echo occupies, the everlasting and often non sensical competition which all newspapers have toendure, the Echo is a very creditable publication in every respect.
JUDGING from the report of the fair otticials that boycott proposed by a few disaffected members of the late farmers' picnic did not hurt anybody but themselves. The cash receipts were fully equal to the fairs of two and three years ago.
Tin, Indianapolis papers from the column after column that they aro dovoting to city politics probably think that the Union will lie dissolved and the world be without form if either Sullivan or Herod is defeated.
