A GREAT FAIR.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY'S TWELFTH ANNUAL A HUGE SU00ESS.
Everybody Was There -Thursday's Crowd Was Estimated at 20,000 Souls —Reports of the Races.
"Out of Sight" is the universal verdict of the crowd, exhibitors and directors in regard to the success of the fair this week. The result has been most gratifying to tho management. Six days of weather made strictly for tho occasion, six mammoth crowds of people, the finest display of fat cattle on record, Floral Hall filled with beautiful effects, gorgeous horses without number, gluttonous swine to excess, fruits and vegetables as only the year 1891 can produce, exciting contests in the speed ring, our cup of happiness is full—what more could we ask, The great fair is over and all is once more quiet on the Potomac.
THF. NACES.
Among the largest fields and best contested races ever seen on the track were there this week. Every raco was filled and the horses were sent for blood. The racing began on Tuesday with the and three yaer old classes with the lowing results:

:iu fo,dsville has been thrown into a paroxysm by a strange phenomenon witnessed about midnight Friday night. Several persons saw the strange delusion, apparition or phenomenon, whatever it was, but none can 'ell what it was. Rev. George \\". Switzer. who was in the city Monday, saw it shortly before midnight and related his impressions to a Journal representative. The night was very dark and the electric lights of the 1 lousier A tiiens shone all the more brilliantly for that reason, lie hadgoneout to the well to get a cool drinkand glanced up at. the sky, his eye at once caught sight of a rapidly floating white object which appeared to be about sixteen feet long and eight feet wide. It looked like a mass of white lace. Iho object moved toward the right, some times rising and then falling, its course being in a curved line, lie watched it until it passed over the Methodist church. At that point it sank much nearer the ground, then rost again. Mr. Switzer can only conceive one solution of the mysterious circumstance. He thinks a Hock of white birds, he dosen't know what kind, became hewildwred by the electric lights and flew blindly about over tin Lafayette Journal.

Saved a Life.
Ed. oris, of this city, who has been abroad, is the subject of many line remarks. for lately, while traveling in Europe saved the life of lady and secured from her lasting gratitude for his good deed. Xcar Lucerne 0n morning the travelers were standing at a railroad station, where there were several tracks. They were awaiting the arrival of their train, and several stood out upon the tracks looking in the direction from which their train was to approach. Among them was a lady (iO years of age residing in Philadelphia. She was somewhat deaf, and standing apart from the others directly on one of the tracks did not notice the rapid approach of a nrail train in the rear. The others left the track calling to her to do the same, but she stood and gazed abstractedly away into the distance. It seem that she was doomed to destruction, but Ms\ Voris. seeing that there was a possible chance, rushed forward, and just as the train was ab»ut to strike her he gave the lady a powerlul push which shot her spinning out on the otliwr side of the track just a second before the train rushed over the spot where she had stood. Mr. Voris himself fell backward on the side of the track from which he approached, narrowly missing being struck bv the tiain. Ihe old lady was most profusw in her thanks to her rescuer. She is quite wealthy and declared that as she had no living relative she intended to make him her heir and will him all her property when she died.
