They Are Murdered by Unknown Scoundrels Who Attempt to Covar Their Crime by Cremation.
ML'IUIKHEIL AND HUH NISI").
NASIIVII.I.K, Tenn., Sept 7.—A horrible story of a double murder has reached here from Livingston, Overton county, about 50 miles from the railroad. Sunday nig-ht the family of William Smith went to church, leaving two girls, 17 and 19 yours of age, in the house alone. About o'clock neighbor noticed an unusual light in the direction of Smith's dwelling. He ran over and found the house rapidly burning. Me arrived just in time to see the bodies of the two girls, both dead, lying on the iloor in the ce%tcr of a downstairs room. Their faces were covered with blood and their clothing disordered. So fierce were the Haines that the bodies could not be rescued. The girls had undoubtedly been murdered, after which the house was set on lire. The family was a very respectable one.
GERMANY AND OUK PORK.
Reciprocity Mas Nothing to Do with the Keitiov:il or the Kmbnrgo. CAPE MAV, N. .1., Sept. 7.—The negotiations which ended with the withdrawal of the prohibition against the importation fit' American pork into Germany were concluded at Saratoga and not at Cape May Point. The conclusion was reached while the president wi» at Saratoga by John \V. Foster, representing the United States government, and Count von Munn, charge d'affaires, representing the German government, and was approved by the president The removal of the pork restriction has nothing to do with any question of reciprocity, but is based upon the acceptance by the German government of the inspection of imported meats by this government under the law of the last congress.
WASHINGTON, Sept. 7.—There is an impression that the action of Germany in regard to American pork and other products will be followed within a reasonable time by Austro-Hungary, as well as by France.
WORK OF A STORM.
The Champs Kly- ,-s, in Paris, Strewn with Wrecks oar Persons Dead. PARIS, Sepl. 7. —The effects of the recent storm are manifest in the Champs Elysees, which resembles the Bois de Boulogne after the German occupation during the last war. The trees were entirely stripped of their leaves, while many were torn by the roots. In the Boise itself forty trees were struck by lightning. At Saint Denis, the 5-mile distant suburb on the north, two persons were killed as they were seeking shelter under a railway bridge. Up to this hour the victims of the storm count tip four killed and ten wounded by falling trees and chimney stacks. The total loss in the capital is placed at 1,000,000 francs. Among the public buildings struck by lightning were the Pantheon, the re .ting place of Victor Hugo and other famous dead, the mint and the spacious Theater Du Chattelet. Fortunately no serious damage was done to either of these buildings.
Scientists assert that the Eiffel tower causes electrical disturbances, and that the climate here has been much worse since the tower was built.

ST. P.U:I„ Minn., Sept. 7.—Mississip pi steamboat men are very wroth be cause, as they allege, the river is being manipulated in the interests of lumbermen. When the log owners want to drive down a lot of logs the dams are opened and the logs floated. Then the dams are closed until another drive is ready. In thL way the water is kept at so iow a stage most of the time that boats are unable to run.
