Oriental Imitators of an Amerioan Aeronaut.
Amusing Incidents of l'rof. Italdwln's lOxhibitioris Among the Mongolians I'lctallH in
M10 Air.
T. S. lialdwin. the aeronaut who recently returned from various oriental countries, suececded in thoroughly astonishing the Mongolian race by his exhibitions, says the S:tn Francisco Chrouicle.
The aeronaut's experiences were generally of the most pleasant kind, for the pigtitiled patrons responded enthusiastically and the novel amusement set all China agog. The attendance at some of the exhibitions in the large seaport cities was enormous. The aeronaxit found some diiliculty in obtaining suitable places for ab«jorbiii«- the cash of the native populace, for fenced grounds are not to be hail, and in most places the inclosure was made by arope and the assistance of the native police. The Mongolian deadhead has a more wholesome dread of the official guardian of the peace than his American confrere, and few persons ventured inside the roped circle without payingthe admission fee. This was ten cents for the outer circle. 1 wenty cents for the intermediate, and two dollars for the inner ring. aeronaut found the swell Chinese perfectly willing to pay this stiif tax.
r.l
he only trouble was that
every pigtailed swell brought a retinue of servants with him. and when a big mandarin strutted in to see the show the army of retainers, from his teapot bearer to Ins rnmd high chamberlain, took up most of the dress circle.
Baldwin gave his first, exhibition at Hong Kong, and the native shouts and yells that greeted his ascent were only excelled by the roar of amazement that met his brother when lie came flying back to earth with a parachute. In all the to'vns the balloon proved the greatest attraction ever brought to the Celestial land by the bearded white devils from foreign p:rts.
Having seen disabused their minds of any lurking belief that the white balloonists were possessed of supernatural powers, the Chinese set themselves to work to ir.'.it .le him. Several adventurous Mongolians broke various portions of their anatomy from their neeks to their legs by trying to descend from lofty temples and tall trees with parachutes constructed out of native umbrellas. Toy biiiouns. constructed with great skill and attention to detail by natives, became part of the stock of the bazaars.
At Foo Chow a native genius constructed a mammoth hot-air baloon, with flaming dragon head and great paper wings, and made an ascension which will be long remembered by his townsmen. Kaldwiu gave all his exhibitions with hot-air-intlated balloons, that style of irilation being cheapest, quickest and otherwise most acceptable to a skilled aeronaut for such work as was there needed. The simple method of expanding the balloon pleased the native imitators, and the Foo Chow genius copied everything to a nicety, except the very important, point t»f how to cut loose at the proper moment without accident. The result was that the balloon, which was of enormous size, shot tip with such terrific and unexpected velocity that it carried with it a score or so of the Mongolians who were steadying it with the guy ropes while the aeronaut \v is getting ready to cut loose.
The great bag of air kept scattering Mongolians over the suburbs of Foo Chow until it turned a regular flip-flap, being improperly balanced, and fell into one of the large ponds in the outskirts of the city. This adventure had a very depressing ert'eet 011 the native aspirants, but the mania had taken too firm a hold to be eradicated by an ordinary increase of the mortality rate, and when Mr. Baldwin left China for Japan pigtailed aeronauts were regularly soaring through space in various sections of the Celestial empire.
The Japanese took almost as enthusiastically to the sport as the Chinese, and native imitators also appeared in a short time.

A dentist of Moscow is reported to have discovered a method of supplying til human mouth with false teeth which will grow into the gums as firmly ns natural ones. Dr. Znamensky has performed several successful operations on dogs as well as human beings The teeth are made of gntta percha, porcelain or metal. Holes are made at the roots of the false tooth and also upward into the jaw. The tooth is then placcd into the cavity. In a short time a soft granulated growth finds its way from the patient's jaw into the holes in the tooth this growth gradually hardens and holds the tooth in position.

Several hoys of Americns. Ga., took it into their heads lately to wage a war against tin: numerous moccasin tribe in Magnolia Dell, and proceeded to carry out the idea. They fought for many hours, running the snakes out of their hiding places, and, after 'tilling them, heaping them in a pile When they finished the pile would fill bushel basket. In their joy the boys then 6tretched them out in a line, which covered a distance of one hundred and. fifty yards. There were one hundred and twenty-three snakes in all. of various lengths and size*.
