THE BALHINCH BUGLE.
Mit. EDITOR: I extract the following from the last issue of the Balbiuch Hugle:
We werethiukiug of starting a daily newspaper in connection with the Bugle, liut owing to the organization of the Female Protective, Benevolent nud General Intelligence Society, we have change.i our mind. We could not endure such powerful opposition, The object of this society is to meet each day at the home of some member and discuss the latest fashions, propagate scandles, local news, etc., and devise means of raising funds for the benefit of the poor benighted heathen of foreign lands. The society fills a long-felt want.
The Balhinch Hog and Sheep Thief Detective Company met last Wednesday night at 112 p. in. Major Cash's smoke house. A communication was received from the Old Sleuth Chicken Thief Detective Company of Ripley township. It closed thnsly: "We have succeeded in ruuniug down two more girls, one live, the other eight years of iige. We have 6trong pro*f against them, wish-bones being found in their possession. "Old Speck" is still roosting at home, but one of our neighbors has missed a banty rooster, so hold yourselves in readiness, as we may call on you for aid at any moment.

After the reading of this letter it was decided to send a vote of thanks to those brave, noble! manly!! chicken thief detectives, of Ripley, for their eternal vigilance and sublime chivalry. They deserve a monument, meeting then went into secret session.
Dr. A. (i. Nosuck, a Softshe 11 Baptist divine, of Balhiuch, is being tried here by his flock for heresy. Iu a recent sermou before the Woinaus' Rights Association, the pr. jumped the narrow bounds of creed and stepped out into the bright sunlight of reason. Iu the course of his sermon, he quoted a number of beautiful things, regarding women, from old
Hindoo writers among them was the legend of the first man and woman from the Hindoo scripture. Said the Dr.: "While they were in the midst, of their misery, a voice came to them from the clouds, saying: '"Woman, thou hast only sinned from love of tl husband, whom I commanded thee to love. I pardon thee and him also for thy sake.' 1 like this better than 1 do the Jewish legend." The pillars or the church say that the Dr. will be fired. Said one of these long-faced fossils, whose picture will be seen below: "He con-
The first toast of the evening was: "To the survivors of Pogue's Run, as gallant a set of knights as ever carried the mail." It was Tl1(1 responded to by Col. John Lewallen as follows: "On this festive occasion, while our stomachs are overflowing with joy and the sprinklers are being replenished, I am called upon to pay my respects to the brave lads who lost the day at Pogue's Run, I was severely wounded in that fight, six balls lodging in the region of my stomach (cod fish balls) for which, thanks to the generosity of Uncle

Her decollete corsage was edged with ebony beads: she wore pumpkin-colored hose decorated a la l'rancaise, with garters a la twine-string. The survivors of the Battle of Pogue's Run held a banquet and reception here, last Satur day night, at the Epicurian Palace. Many battle-scarred veterans from abroad were on hand to partake of the "feast of reason and How of soul." The exercises opened with an old army supper of pork, beans, and greens, which was highly complimented by rapid disappearance, followed by sprinklers of foaming buttermilk to wash down the viands and justify the toasts. Long before the main body bad arrived on the scene, the light infantry or Jackville was pressed in double file against the dinning room walls, awaiting the signal to assault the table, The capture of the fortifications did not exceed three seconds. At the tirst tickle of the tiell, there was a rush that shook the building from cellar to garret. Up and down the table it was one gulping mass. The boys had fasted a week in anticipation of the event. Knives, forks, spoons, and bare hands were plunged into the enemy, while above the "roar and carnage of battle" could be heard "Beans! more beans here!" "for God's sake pass the bacon gravy!" etc., e'c.
Sam, I now receive $l.ltX per month." The remainder of the toasts were drank in silence.
Last Friday night witnessed the grandest and most recherche event in the annals of le bean monde. It was the marriage of Mr. Lige Lasering and Miss Tulip O'Keller at the home of the bride's parents on Tomcat street. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Nyder, of the United Sister church. Among those present from abroad were J. Bennett, Linden R. B. Snyder, Black creek John Wingate, Wingate Morris Herzog, Waynetown I. M. Davis, James Hanna, and Constable Byas, of Crawfordsville. A letter was received from Ed. Coleman, regretiug his inability to tie present. Col. John Lewallen acted as niuitre de corps, and with tlio greatest bienseanee conducted the guests to benches, old trunksi nail kegs, and other available seats.

The wedded pair left at midnight for a bridal tour to Willow Grove school house and other noted points. They departed on the back of Lige's old roan mare, the groom riding behind with one arm entwining the waist of his angelic bride. As they started down the road, they were followed by a shower of old shoes boots, socks, nud rice—symbols of luck. Mr. and Mrs. Lasering will return home by way of Yountsville, where they will stop a while to admire the new machinery iu the Suy der tlour mill aud make a few purchases at the woollen factory. Memorial to McDonald.
A nieetiug ot the Montgomery county bar wa9 held iu the court, room last Tuesday evening where resolutions on the death of its distinguished ex-meuiber, Hon. Joseph E. McDonald, were passed. Judge Ben Ristine was made chairman and J. R. Hanna secretary. On assuming the chair Mr. Ristine made a few very appropriate remarks, after which a committee composed of Messrs. Ristine, Thomas, Kennedy, Johnson aud Sellar were appointed to draft resolutions as follows, which were unanimously adopted:
The Hon. Joseph E. McDonald was admit' ted to the bar of the Montgomery circuit court on the Kith day October, 184!), and thereafter he resided iu CrawfordBville for may years, HPd duriug this time identified himself with all the interest of the. community.
The honored career which has just closed was begun here aud ntnong this people by whom he was greatly beloved.
Therefore we deem it proper to nut on record a memorial or esteem in which he was held by this bar and by the people.
His professional career, now closed, was one of singular purity, fit to be held up to the world. He scorned pretence nnd subterfuge and scrupulously avoided all the arts of the trickster. What he urged he believed. Nothing ever induced him to attempt success by dishonest means. He wns a pure man as well as an honest and able lawyer nnd his whole career, both private and public, was one that the world will admire no long as the love of truth and justice shall prevail among men.
After the passage of the resolutions many pleasant reminiscence* were related by the members many of w!iom were personally ac. quinnted with the early life of the brave old patriot after which the bar adjourned.
A Peculiar Case.
Sipiire Clark, one of the oldest citizens of Montgomery county, met with an accident Inst Monday evening which may prove fatal. Mr. Clark, who lives with his wife at the home of Silas Jones, has a cow on pasture at lhe old fairgrounds east of the city which it is his custom to drive out there each evening aud milk. As the above evening Mr. Clark, who is unite aged, in some manner fell front vehicle lodging between the bed and the wheels and iu this position was dragged for some distance before extricating himself, Shortly after he was found by a neighbor ill maimed and bleeding condition and when plied with questions answered not a word, Ins only iespouse being a fixed and death-like stare. He was helped in bis buggy and driven to his home. Here ins wife appe to him butbeouly pat staring,'making no sign or won!. A •lysiciau was summoned who dressed scw-mI ugly wounds alioul t!»ft head and neck alio the old gentleman was put to tied. Wednesday he begati recognizing his friends and on Thursday was improved so for as fo lie able to answer yes and no to questions but can I further conveisatiou. Hi?
