Mr. James Boots starts for his sliver mining property near Tellurite, Colorado, the first of next week.
Capt. G. W. Lamb, of Frankfort, is in the city. The Capt. has sold his merchant tailoring establishment in that city and will soon locate in Chicago.
Thomas Duffy, who fell through the window in W. B. Hardee's cigar store while on a drunk the other day, was fined $11:35 in the Mayor's court Thursday, in default of which he is doing time at the jail.
Chief Marshal, J. J, Insley, has selected the following corps of aids to assist him in the Fourth of July celebration: Col. Gifford, J. B. Smith. John Walter, John Weidle, Walter Pickett, Douglas Griffith, Will Goltra, Joly Joel, Albert S. Miller, Walter Britton, Jas. Kennedy.
Robert BowerP, of Sugar Creek township, appeared before Judge Snyder Friday morning charged with disturbing a Dunkard's meeting and carrying concealed weapons. He was fined and costed $5 for each offense amounting to,$45. Robert is a wiser man, although a little short in consequence.
Emerson Itajr, living north of Waynetown, lost a valuable stallion in a runaway near his home last Thursday. While out exercising the animal to a sulkey the horse became unmanageable and rin away. After running a distance one of the shafts broke and ran into the stallion's side, killing him instantly.
The sports at Peru, are making great preparations for the coiniag fight between Ed Corey, Michigan City's state champion, and William Pitts, of that place. It is said that Pitts'friends have plenty cf money to bet on him, but the color of it has not yet been exposed to the gaze «f Corey's friends, who will cover all that is put up. It is said that an expert trainer has been secured to handle Pitts. No fight that has takeu place in Indiana in years will be watched with so much interest as this one.—Michigan City News.
A drunken brute who gave his name as Amos Stephenson was arrested on Maiu street by the police Wednesday for beating a poor old horse until it was hardly able to move. When taken to the jail he became frantic, tore his clothing mto shreds, howled, hooted, kicked and attempted to bite the iron bars in two. Late in the evening lie quieted down and was turned loose. Climbing into his wagon ho drove into the Valley where lie again beat the poor brute until it dropped dead. Should he ever return here he will certainly be given a dose of his medicine he so richly deserves.
More Orange Blossoms.
Last Thursday nii$it at the home of Jonathan Nutt, ou South Walnut street, occurred the wedding of Mr. Nutt's daughter, Flora, to Charles W. Burton, of Dana, Iud., in the presence of one hundred guests. The ceremouy was performed by Rev, Horace Ogdeu, of Danville, assisted by Kev. G. W. Switzer. The home was beautifully decorated, aud delicious refreshments were served. The groom has been a member of Wabash College for several years, graduating with the class of '91. The bride is one of Crawfordsville's most charming society ladies and a graduate of the class of 'ill, of the city High Scheoi. The bride's father preseuted the youag couple with a check for $11)0 while the father of the groom presented them with $800. The young couple begin their new life under very auspicious circumstances,

At a meeting of some of the members of the 10th Iud.. Vol. Inf., held in the small court room Wednesday afternoou it was was decided to hold a reunion in this city on Sept. 18 and 111, 181U, and the following committees were appointed. A Foot Amputated.!
Dr. Kusmiuger, in company with eight other physici.uit from this uity, last Thursday afternoon, amputated the foot of Win. K. Poynts, a well Kiiswn citizeu of New Market. About a year ago Mr. Poynts severely sprained his ankle while jumpiug over a stream. The accident, although pnmful, was not at the time supposed to be serious, but his condition continued to grow worse until the above operation became necessary to save his life. Air. Poynts is almost B5 years of age, but passed through the operation successfully and at present gives hope of complete recovery.

According to a receut decision of Judge Langdon at Lafayette the Sheriff is allowed no fees for the services of a turnkey at the jail on the grounds thnt the law does not now nor never did allow for the same. The case has been taken to the Supreme court.
Bill Gulliver's desciiptive letter last'week from the Balhinch Bugle giving an account of the supposed High School in that place, being intended solely as a burlesque on the present day graduating exercises of most schools, was highly relished by Ricvmw readers. We are promised further effusions from Bill's pen in the future.
Some twenty-five members of the alumni of Wabash College from a distance attended commencement exercises hero this week. It is noticed that these exercises do not attract near the interest offormer years, as several old graduates of the institution living here did not put iu an appearance at any time. "Commencement" with them has lost its charm, if it had any at any time.

Jim Hanna tells a great snake story. It seems that while James was exercising one of his thoroughbred ponies in the vicinity of Youutsville last Saturday afternoon a huge blacksnake suddenly sprang from the side of liie road aud wound itself about the horse's leg. This so frighteued the animal that it ran nearly a mile before it could be stopped when Jim climbed down and dispatched his snakeship with a club. It measured five feet, nine inches.
Forty of the (/rack Military Companies of the United States will compete for prizes aggregating $10,000.00 and the "Championship Cup," at Indianapolis, during the week of July 4th. Over twenty states will be represented and the greatest number of military companies ever taking part in a contest will alteud. A specular street parade will lie given oil the evening of July 2. To tho forces in camp, some tweuty-live other organizations will be added, so that it will be the greatest parade ever seen iu Indiana, The National Holiday, July 1th., will be celebrated by an entire day of competitive drills by the crack companies of the country. A half fare rate lias been grauted by all railroads.

Last Wednesday evening at 8:30 o'clock, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Elias Brown on eaBt Main street, Rev. G. W. Switzer pro Bounced the works which forever joined the destinies of Mr. Howard L. Craig and Miss Anna Brown, in the presence of a large number of invited guests. The home was profusely decorated with beautiful flowers, while the dining room was a veritable fairies' bower. The bride is a native Athenian, one of the city noblest daughters, aud a leader in society who numbers her admirers by the Bcore. The grooin is one of our best young men and is a member of Uucie Sam's army of mail carriers. Being of modest disposition he attracts rather thnn seeks friends. I)elicioii9 refreshments were served and the evening delightfully spent. Illness of Hon. Jos. E. McDonald. The numerous friends of Hon. J. E. McDonald in Montgomery county where he resided for many long years, will regret to learu that he is now on his death bed, and his demise may soon be expected. His ailment is cancer or the stomach and his physicians have intimated there is nothing upon which to base a hope of his recovory. Mr. McDonald came to Crawfordsville from Lafayette over 40 years ago, but is a native of Ohio. Many years ago he was a partner in the law practice with Hon. Henry S. Lane and Col. Samuel Wilsou. He removed from here to Indianapolis at our near the beginning of th" latejwar and has ever since resided itiere, eujo\ nig at all times a lucrative practice. His ii^e. we are told, is about 71 years.
Uncle Sanfoid Gray Honored.
Last Sunday occui red the 81st anniversary of that venerable old gentleman, Sauford Gray, and the event was duly celebrated with an elaborated dinner at the home nis son, John K. Gray, in Waynetown, to which invited guests to the number of 200 did ample justice. The aver-' age age of those at the lirst table was till years aud at tho second 58 years. The feast was eulived by happy speeches from elder Scott and Supt. J. S. /uck. The occasion was one of the happiest in the history of the old gentlemen's life aud will go tar toward brightening the decliuing days of a life well spent.
