MK, Ki'HOR: I extract the following from the last issue of the Balhirich Hugle:
Hill Gulliver has the credit of residing In Crawfordsville. The county seal wants the honor of claiming liiin as one of its distinguished citizens. Hill must feel Mattered.
Sam Saintly, an evangelist, has heen holding a series of meetings here iu the Methodist church. He lectures to-night on "Socs of •Satan." He will talk to-morrow night ou "Heirs of Hell." His sermons are interspersed with negro minstrel gags and Sam Jones vulgarity. His fancies are as childish as r.ome of Rev. Talmage's. His teinperauce remarks, however, are very good, and would he much better were they not tainted with superstition. Hut they are intended for Christians only, you know. Kev.Saintly's teinperauce platform (unlikei'!) br.Tracoy's), is so narrow that none but Christians can stand upon it. Perhaps lie is right in presuming that all Free thinkers, Spiritualists, Hebrews, etc., are temperancejuien by nature. His pledge is so worded that no one but a Christian can conscientiously sign it. This is pretty hard on the Christians, for it supposes that they do all the drinking.

WHITE CATS.
Overflowing with indignation, we rushed to the office armory, and taking an old musket, we loaded it with great primer quads, leads, old files, etc., and started on a white cap bunt. Before we had reached the door leading to the street, it svas burst open and in rushed a gang of twenty masked White Caps armed with green beech switches. Ou perceiving that we were arrayed in full fighting apparel, they caiue to a sudden halt, and held a council of war near the door way. We dared them to assault us. We challenged them to battle. We bowled defiance at the whole cowardly pack, our
war-like appearance spread panic in their midst auil they beat a hasty retreat. We gave pursuit, raising a Zulu yell and firing into them as we did so. Hie rattling of leaden missels around the srats of their pants had a tendency to increase their speed. They Hew down alleys, ran up stairways, jumped leuces, and plunged franticly into sewers. We say it in no spirit of boastfullness, but some day every one of these White Caps will be sleeping in our private grave yard—some day when they have worn out our patience.
Balhiuch is of "noble Irish origin." About forty years ago, one Patrick o'Sliaughnossy drifted into this locality and founded a city, which he called Hadynahinch. after his native town, in the couuty of Down, Irelai.il. Ballynahiuch, Ireland, Is mentioned by liulwer in one of bis novels. From Hallynaliinch, our city finally became changed to plain Ualhincti, owing to the increase of the plebeian element. A life sized statue, representing O'Sliaughnossy in the act of mauliug a rail, is to be erected at the corner

It seems to he the object of some preach*r8 in this town to frighten mankind, so that they may not study and reason calmly on the sub" ject of religion. In the pursuit of their designs, these fanatics supply their customers with all sorts of imaginative death-bed stones. They never attempt to prove these tales. That would bo impossible. Hosts of great inlidels have lived and died aB they honestly believed, firm and uncompromising to the last. Hundreds of persons within our own daypersons who believed in no (iod and hoped f«r no immortal life—have died firm in their belief. No intelligent, honest, unprejudiced Christian will deny this. Brethren, let us lie truthful. Hii.i, Ci'i.MVKH.

In reading over the literary items of the week, I found not mnch to interest me, until my eye caught sight of an article headed "Jetties' Dream." Imagine my surprise to find it ended up with a recommendation to use Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pellets. Nevertheless, being a great sufferer from sick headache, I determined to try them, and, to my great joy, I found prompt relief, and by their protracted use, a complete immunity from such attacks. Pierce's Pellets often cure sick headache in an hour. They are gently laxative or actively cathartic, according to size of dose. As a pleasant laxative, take one each night on retiring. For adults, four act as an active, yet painless, cathartic. Cause no griping or sickness. Best Liver Pill ever made. Smallest, Cheapest, Easiest to take. For Constipation, Indigestion and Bilious Attacks, they have no equal.
