Green Goods,

One of those numerous circulars telling a innn how to get rich by dealing in couMerfeit money, was received by V/. T. Ramsey, the blacksmith, on Greeu street, the other day. The circular is similar iu import toothers which have been received in this county by numerous people. The uiau wished Mr. Ramsey to come to New York to purchase the goods as he only deals with his customers face to face, He tays: "You will find me square aud honorable in every particular. When you arrive here I will show you my stock and you can make your own selection." If the goods are not as line as guaranteed Mr. Ramsey was to receive $1,000 in gold and his traveling expenses each way. Four hu*dred dollars gets four thousand dollars of the queer, and one thousand dollars gets thirty thousand dollars He father stated that if Mr. Ramsey would buy $650 worth he should ha*e the exclusive State right. If he wished to purchase he was to telegraph to George May, of Darliugton, Ala., tbene words: "Please forward at once, Daniel 395." Mr. May would then see that arrangements were then made by which The parties could meet in New York. The letter closes with: "No such thing as fail. Act square. Be true and honorable. You can make money faster and easier by dealing in my goods than you ever dreamed of befoie iu your life. Will you try It? Yours sincerely in honor and confidence.

Wallace vs. Nebeker.

There are eight reported candidates for Goveruor next year in this state within the ranks of the republican party. Among them is mentioned Gen. Lew Wallace of this city. The Sentinel of Indianapolis has tho following regarding him and U. S. Treasurer Ene Nebeker:

He will not swing nrouud the counties, but will place his caudidacy iu the bauds of his friends. It is said that he will allow Nebeker to be confirmed for U. S. Treasurer upon the condition that Nebeker will work for him for governor. Wallace has in his little safe some documents very damagiug to Nebeker. When the latter was selected for U. S. Marshal for Utah by Mr. Harrison, Wallace notified the president that he would defeat Nebeker's continuation with his little documents. The appointment was not made. Last March when Harrison looked About to pacify an Indiana kicker with the U. S. trensuryship he sent tor Nebeker and told l-iin he could have Huston's place, provided lie could bring him a written statement from Lew Wallace that he would not oppose his confirmation. This Nebeker procured. BHt Wallace did not give up the affidavits against the Fountain county boodler.

Dr. David Kennedy: Dear Sir: For ten years I have been a sufferer from disease of the kidneys, at times so much so as to make life a burden. During this time several of the best physicians in Indiana have treated me with little or no success, until I had almost despaired of relief. I then tried several advertised remedies, but nothing produced the desirea result uutil a frieud who had beeu relieved induced me to give Dr. David Kennedy's Favorite Remedy a trial. I did so. After taking one bottle I began to experience relief. I took another aud was charmed with the result. In all I have taken four bottles, and can truly say I feel like anew man. I am con. fident I am entirely cured, as it has been several months since I took the last medicine, aud there is no indication of a return of the disease. I have recommended your remedy to several suffering friends who have also been relieved. I write this to return my sincere thanks to you for the cure which has beeu effected in in case, aud also desire to sa.v that I think suffering humanity owe you a debt of gratitude for your wonderful scientific discovery. I shall do all that iu me lies to let all sufferers know where they may find relief and thauk yon tor the good you have done me,

sritvtvons KKSCUKD HY IIOI.HS. ST. LOUIS, May '28.—A letter mb ?een received here irom Cape Town, Boutli Africa, giving an account of the capture and torture by Zulus of Jeff Allen, of Decatur, III., and W. A. Kennan, formerly of St. Joseph, Mo. The letter is dated March 21, and it is signed "Frank Short." It was inclosed in an envelope from the United States consulate at Cape Town. The letter says that the British stiip Neptune, Capt. Saunders master, of London, was recently driven ashore oil the coast of Natal, adjacent to the Free States, and all but five of the crew of fifty-eight perished. The escape of the five persons was in itself a miracle. They were the chiof mate, named Adams a Gseek A. li. Leaman, an Englishman, and A. Kennan and JelE Allen, two young Americans. Allen was acting1 in the capacity of purser and had shipped from Calcutta. India, while Kennan shipped from Rangoon, Hurmah.

When the ship was wrecked the crew took to the boats, which wore capsized. Four of those named managed to swim ashore, while Kennan secured a li.te buoy and floated to the shore with a pet monkey in his arms, but the monkey perished before reaching land. The party stopped nine days at the scene of the wreck and interred all the bodies that floated ashore. During this time they suffered greatly, as they had to sleep in the open air and subsist on mussels and wild fruits.

The five men started on foot to Natal. 170 miles distant. On the way they were captured by a baud of Zulus, who stripped off their clothes and proceeded to torture them by tying them to a tree and beating them severely with the shamboek—a jagged club'in ule of rhinoceros hide. While the fiends wore in the midst of this barbarous system they were surprised by

party of Koer hunters armed

.1

with muskets, who charged upon them and put them to flight. Hut three of the survivors of the shipwreck %vere already dead, the Zulus having butchered them with assagais. Those three were Jeff Allen, tho Greek and Leaman. Kennan and Adams were the only ones who survived the torture. It is heart-sickening to hear Adams relate the way the poor men pleaded for mercy. It seem: he became unconscious after the first two strokes from the shamboek. Kennan, he says, received three strokes, and, from what Adams could understand, the chief wanted to spare his life and take liim captive to his kraal, while the others he ordered killed.

Kennan and Adams were safely conveyed to Natal and thence to Cape Town. Kennan is still insane from his iufl'ering.

Disastrous Kllect of Wholesale KiiiigrHtion to America—Portions of the Country Almost Denuded of tlie Young and •Strong of Itotli sexes.

Loxiiox, May '28.—A Stockholm dispatch savs that the government of Sweden has ordered an inquiry as to Ae conditions in parts of that country said to be almost denuded of young men by emigration to Amei ica. Young women of the domestic service are also very scarce and tinwages demanded by servants have risen to double the figures of a few years ago. The supply of conscripts is running short and the burden of •military service falls more heavily on those that remain. As the aged and crippled are generally left behind, while the young and strong of both sexes emigrate, the country in many places looks as if the efl'ectK'e population had been carried ofl' by war, leaving only the physically worthless. Another fact that causes anxiety to the Swedish government is the large proportion of (jure, light-haired Swedes among the emigrants, this being the class akin to the North Ciernian and English that has heretofore upheld the country both in war and in peace. Their places in northern Sweden are largely taken by immigrant Lapps, who arc akin to the Mongols. In Vermland, called the cradle of the Swedes, the people are leaving in throngs, and nearly every young person wants to emigate.
