PKOTKCTION acquired ouly from a truthful knowledge of ways and means, legal and illegal, just and unjust, by which the burdeus of government, profits of labor and industry, are unequally divided.

That knowledge is power, aud ignorance its slave, is forcibly illustrated daily in all walks of life, among all people, in all countries.

Where knowledge is used as a power or means for gaiului' wealth without labor or an equivalent therefor, it becomes mvesvury to deceive or. The Cincinnati Vt eekly Enquirer is one of the few, if not the only one, absolutely free from such influences. It is the most honest, thorough, able teacher and exponent of truthful knowledge, of reliable ta, free from partisan bias, fair, frank and explicit tosuoh degree that one cannot but feel ediiieil and capable of forming correct conclusions therefrom. When You Get a Bla«k Cat, Shav* It. The bills of particulars for the Pettit case are coming in. The advance account arrived late Saturday afternoon, when a representative of Montgomery County waited upon Auditor J. Frank Byers, and asked for a warrant for the handsome sum of $3,124.30. Ho would not drop the SO cents he was not'asked to do so, but he would have declined, no doubt, had it beendone. The gentleman came after money. He did not want any promises to pay, but taking the warrant, went into the Treasurer's office and Urow the money. He placed the cash in the capacious pockets of his jeans, and returned home. The bill is itimised, certified to by Judge Snyder, and is the "first invoice" as a gentleman in the Auditor's office said: Henry B. Hulett, clerk $ 74.00 E. 1'. McClpskey, sheriff fets 1,072,00 E. •(it The Touug People's Keadiag Circle. In 1887 the State Teachei's Association formed an organization known as the Young People's Redding Circle. The Circle is under the management of a Board of Directors, consisting of nine of the most prominent educators of the state, Mrs. McRae, of Ptfrdue, heading the list. The chief duty of this board to select the books for the young readers, and secure reduced rates from the publisher. Any boy or girl who reads a book selected by the board will be enrolled as a member and receive a card of meini^rMilp upon sending the name and title of tUe book r-nd to D. M. Greeting, Sec., of the t-anl, Indianapolis, Ind. About thirty thousand read the books last year. Not much has bepn -lone in this county heretofore, but an effort is beir.g made to get the circle started in some

of the schools in

each township of the county. Teachers and parents should join in nu earnest effort to get the books into the li.itids of the children. Arrangements have bpi-i! marl' with G. W.
