MADISON TOWNSHIP

We are having good winter weather. The elevator at Kirkpairick is said to sure thing.

The schools of this township all in a prosperous condition. J. W. Willson is feeding three car loads of cattle for the spring market. •.

Everbody seems to want to put in a bid the county line free gravel road. The farmers ot Montgomery and Tippecanoe counties are organizing a home fire insurance company.

The new depot at Kirkpatnck is to be moved over to the south side of the track to make

for extending the Bwitch for the new elevator. Some of the republicans here are wanting more for their hogs than their own party leaders are paying in the Union Stockyards at Indianapolis. They should go over and consult their brethren and try ana spring the market.

room

On Jan. 1st Richmond & Ross will remove their harness store into a room in the Miller block on Washington street They have too many goods to move and to reduce stuck will sell at a positive sacrifice for the next twoweeks.

of

The stock shipper8 ot this community are feeling very blue. The people were promised good prices for their larm produce, better prices for their stock on foot but instead of getting better the sale on foot seems to be getting worse. It seems as though the republican party cannot control the markets any more than an individual person, For their leaders to start out in a political campaign telling the people that if they would vote for the republican ticket, that they would restore to then? a great export market for their beef and pork, is all wind. If there Is no. foreign demand for American produce, how is the republican party to give us a market? The McKinley bill does not give us a market for one bafrel of pork or'beef nor does it give the American farmer a market for one bushel of grain. We ask ourselves what is the matter with Harrisou's administration. The republicans of the western Btates will not yield longer, and what the result will be be to furnish the stock rais. ere and the tillers of the soil with foreign markets is yet to be looked for and hoped for.

COUNTY SCHOOL NOTES.

Teach, don't hear recitations. You cannot tell a pupil how to study. Study each child. He has special needs. Myrtle(Elliott teaches in Franklin township. It is the teacher's duty to discourage Blang. When a pupil wants to be better ho Is bettar.

Teach perception and memory in connection.

H. A. Harper teaches in Franklin town ship. Little things are the ones that should be done well,

Too much holiday is unhealthy for the com mon school. H. M.£ Robinson is doing good work in Brownsvalley.

Walter McBroom is the controlling power at New Richmond.

Knowledge that cannot be communicated is not knowledge,

Good temper comes from a clear conscience and a good stomach. A low voice is much better and more effective than aloud one.

The are eight married teachers in the work in Montgomery county.

J. B. Evans has brought the Waveland schools to a high standard.

It is a large part of a teacher's duties to cultivate a refined taste in her pupils.

The Longview schools are being successfully conducted by Misses Spruhan and Hall. It is easier to stop the beginning of evil than to check it when the stream has gathered force-

More attention shold be given to teaching the average child to speak and write his mother tongue.

A number of the Montgomery county teachers will attend the state normal school during the spring.

An examination is not so much for the purpose of findiutr out what a pupil knows, as ascertaining his mental power.

We think the trustees of the Ladoga schools saved a penny and lost a pound in not having their teachers attend the County Teacher's Association.

Man cannot live ou bread alone a child cannot live on studies alone a teacher cannot live on hearing lessons alone. The teacher

should

improve general inlelligance and good manners, and above all to elevate the school socially and morally.
