M. A. Conner met with a serious accident at tho Main street erossing of the Mouon railroad laat Saturday morning. The Western Union gang are running some new wires from the city office to the junction, and as Mr. Connes attempted to drive across the track his team becamo entangled therein, aud in attempting, to free themselves upset the buggy and threw Mr. Conner violently to the ground, straining his back and severely bruising him. The team was cut up and the buggy broken. Mr. Conner says be will sue for damages.
The conviction of TV. P. Pettit, and his sentence to imprisonment for life, meets witli general approval wherever the proceedings in the case were followed with any degree of interest, Public opinion has long since settled down to the belief that Mrs. Pettit was the victim of poison, and the only apprehension felt in the premises was that canning attorneys might succeed in affecting a disagreement of the inry. In this case, at least, court and jury pnt a veto on making a mockery of justice.— Brazil Times.

The eight-montbs-old son of Mrs. John Winters died at her home on west Wabash avenue last Saturday night at 9 o'clock. This is the third member of that family that bas passed away within four months.!

A house belonging to A. C. Jeunison and occupied by a Mrs. Anderson, on west Pike street, caught fire from a defective flue last Tuesday morning at 6 o'clock. By prompt assistance of the neighbors the flames were subdued without the aid of the department.
