Trace It Down-

Some years ago two farmers of Polk county lost their wives by death, says the Des Moines Leader. They naturally felt lonesome, and in due time, began to think a second wife in each household would be a most excellent addition thereto. They were neighbors and trieuds, and each had a family of children, including one or more grown daughters. After careful consideration eaoh took the other's daughter as his second wife. Through these marriages children wore born to each. These children now reside in Polk county. What was lhe relationship between the two men and their wives, and in what relation did the children stand to each other and to the old folks? The old farmers were father-iu-law to each other. Who will carry out the relationship of the mothers and children.

Another Hatchet Presentation.

Saturday afternoon Auditor Goben was presented with a beautiful wooden bronze hatchet, similar to the one handed to Hon. E. V. Brookshire a few days beforeV' The presentaiou speech was made by John Courtney, who acquitted himself finely on the occasion. Mr. Goben who was entirely nnaware of the intention of the crowd, thanked the doners heartly for this mark of their esteem for hiin, The handle of the hatcbct is ornamented with a variety of beautiful ribbons on which are the names of John Hulett, E. Thompson, J. D, Hillis, Win, Guntie, H. McDaniei, W, J. Owsley, Ira Booher, Win. Endicott, R. T. GrifHii, John M. Booher and others. The hatchet was made by Hampton Booher, who seems to be a genius with the knife when it conies to making wooden ornaments.

Will Wave Preliminary Elamination. It is probable that George Bennett, the murderer of two men at Lafayette who was taken to the Michigan City Penitentiary for safekeeping and (o prevent a mob from tampering with him, will waive a preliminary hearing and remain where he is until the grand jury returns an indictment against liiin. Being placed in the prisou for safety only, he is not required to work? as,are the regular inmates, but is kept in his cell, save that he is allowed two hours each day for exercise. Sheriff McKee says Bennett seemed very irrateful for the efforts made to keep lihn out of lhe hands or the mob, and he thanked the Sheriff, sayiug he was sure (lie action bad saved his life.

One of our colored voters wanted to know the other day, when the returns were coming in, and everybody said the McKinley bill was what did it, why McKinley didn't settle that bill, that made such a terrible disturbance all over the country. The Great Majority

Of

cases ot scrofula and other diseases are hereditary, and therefore difficult to cure. But we wish to state in the most positive, emphatic manner that Hood's Sarsaparilla does ci.re scrofula in every form.
