"Like Magic,"

THE

effect produced by Ayer's Cherry Pectoral. Colds, Coughs, Croup, and Sore Throat are, in most cases, immediately relieved by the use of this wonderful remedy.

"I have used Ayer's Cherry Pectoral in my family for thirty years and have always found it the best remedy for croup, to which complaint my children have been subject."— Capt. U. Carley, Brooklyn, N. Y. "From an experience of over thirty years in the sale of proprietary medicines, I feel justified in recommending Ayer's Cherry Pectoral. One of the best recommendations of the Pectoral is the enduring quality of its popularity, it being more salable now than it was twenty-five years ago, when its great success was considered marvelous."— U. S. Drake, M. D., Beliot, Kans. "My little sister, four years of age, was so ill from bronchitis that we had almost given up hope of her recovery. Our family physician, a skilful man and of large experience, pronounced it useless to give her any more medicine saying that he had done all it was possible to do, and we must prepare for the werst. As a last resort, we determined to try Ayer's Cherry Pectoral, and I can truly say, with the most happy results. After taking a few doses she seemed to breathe easier, and, within a week, was out of danger. We continued giving the Pectoral until satisfied she was entirely well. This has given me unbounded faith in the preparation, and I recommend it confidently to my customers."—C. O. Lepper, Druggist, Fort Wayne, Ind.

Supt. Zuck is visiting schools. F. O. Maxwell mles at Shady Nook. The colored schools have a new principal. Rose Griest is teaching at Marion again this year.

All schools in the county are now moving smoothly. Do you teach general knowledge along with technical?

Miss Lida McKnight is again at No. 5, Clark township. Prof.W ellington is doing good work for the city schools.

Tbe well at tbe Whitesville school house is 181 feet deep. O. B. Hultz was over from Jamestown last Saturday week.

The program for tbe County Teachers' Association will soon be out. Madison township teachers had a good institute last Saturday week.

Blanche Kelsey has a good little school at Beech Grove, Union township. Anna Wilson has been promoted to the high school work in the city schools.

Ripley township has made a new departure and has three lady teachers this year. D. H. Gilkey is teaching bis fourth year near Ynuutsville. He deserves a better position-

Gin ma Conner is located in the best district school house in the county. Who has the poorest?

The great need of Crawfordsvile is a school for girls, either the admission into Wabash College or a school for their own sex.

Do you ever realize that tho child spends one-fourth of its life iu the school room. This should convince all of the necessity of making the surroundings pleasant.

History says that of the first six hundred emigrants to New England, one in thirty were college graduates. Have we as a nation improved ourselves in the line of education and advancement as becomes an energetic people?

Prior to the Revolution it was against the rules of the college of Wn. and Mary for their professors to marry, and upon the marriage of a professor his professorship was immediately vacated, but that paBsed away, aB will the cry against the lady teacher who may marry if she wishes without danger of losing her place.

The following are some of tbe duties of a New England schoolmaster of 1661: To act as court messenger, to serve summonses, to conduct certain ceremonial services of the churcb, to lead the Sunday choir, to ring the bell for Sunday worship, to dig the graves, to take charge of the school, to perform other occasional duties.

Adam Roeiandsend, tbe first teacher of tbe colony of New York, not only tanght the yoUth but took in washing also. The teacher of the present has a few advantages over the teacher of that time, but it is 'still necessary to have some other employment by which to obtain a subsistence. Evidently a good argument in favor of more professional teachers, better work and better salaries would be of some benefit.

A LEVEL HEAD,

The Advantage of I'resence of Jliml in an Kiuergeucy. During the late strike on the New York Central Railroad, the militia were ordered to be in readiness in case of a riot, but they were not called out.

In au interview, Gov. Hill said the troops were not to be called upon except in a case of emergeucy. The emergency bad not arisen, therefore they would not be ordered out. He remarked that this was the first great strike with whicy he had had experience, and he did not propose to lose his head the only point at which there had been serious trouble was at Syracuse, and there a deputy sheriff had lost his head and precipitated an encounter.

The strike continued several weeks and there was riotous action at various points along the road, but the civil authorties were able to cope with it without calling on the militia

Tbe test of a man's ability comes when an euiergency arises which makes a hasty call on bis good judgement and discretion. The man who retains his presence of mind, maintains bis equipoise and exercises sound discretion at such critical junctures, is to be relied on and will be put to the front.

Men with lerel heads have tbe staying qualities which do not falter in the face of danger. Otis A. Cole, of Kinsman, O., June 10, 1890, writes: "In the fall ot 18881 was feeling very ill. I consulted a doctor and he said I had Bright'8 disease of the kidneys and that he would not stand in my shoes for the state of Ohio." But he did not lose courage or give up he says: "I saw the testimonial of Mr. John Coleman, 100 Gregory St, New Haven, Conn., and I wrote to him. In due time I received an answer, stating that the testimonial that he gave was genuine and not overdrawn in any particular. I took a good many bottles of Warner's Safe Cure have not taken any for one year.

Gov. Hill is accounted a very successful man he is cool and calculating and belongs to the class that do not lose their heads when emergencies arise.

Many Indiana hunters have gone to Michi gau to shoot deer and bear. They will buy enough to distribute among friends. tesE-Vv©

Lead Pomon Cured,

I am a painter by trade. Three years ago I had a bad case of lead poison caused by using rubber paint. I was cured in a short time by SSS. Tho medicine drove the poison out through the pores of the skin. When |I first commenced taking SSS, my system was so saturated with poison that my underclothes were colored by the paint being worked out by the medicine through the pores of my skin. I was cured entirely by SSS. I took nothing else, and have had no return since.

Hut One Sure Aid.

Clogged kineys, sluggish liver and inactive bowels speedily manifested in the vitaled and inutritious blood show how far impaired are tbe vital organs, each of {which, while seriously affecting the others, is in itself reactedfopon disastrously, either directly or,|through the blood, by all the rest. Medical science is infinitely richer in the nomenclature of the diseases thus induced than in medicines for their ct?re. There is indeed but one preparation that can be relied upon to act certainly and speedily for the restoration to health and that is Dr. Kennedy's Favorite Remedy. In a vast numbers of cases it has effected cures of the most obstinate and dangerous diseases—particularly those of the kidneys and liver—where all otherjtreatment has proved valueless.
